A Case study of Website Business Transactions:

Two years ago a company developed a website and begun selling its clothing products over internet. Due to sky rocketing sales of its products on internet, the management is now considering strategies to increase sales. To learn more about website customers, a sample of 50 tractions was selected from last month’s sales data. The data is provided below.

The manufacturing company manager would like to determine the effect that the day of the week and the type of browser have on the sales. Further, the manager would like to determine if online shoppers who spend more time and view more pages also spend more money during their visit to the website.

As a student of Principles of Data Analysis subject at JCU, you have been hired to prepare a statistical report addressing the manager’s desire.

To help the manager you are supposed to answer the following questions for preparing a statistical report on “online purchasing behaviour of customers.”

a) Determine how many element, variables, observations and measurements are in the data set. b) Identify which variable is qualitative, categorical, quantitative, discrete and continuous. c) Develop numerical summary statistics including coefficient of variation for the length of time the shopper spends. Discuss what you learn about the shoppers from the numerical summaries. d) Construct a frequency distribution of the amount of dollars spend by shoppers [use k 1 3 log 10 n to compute the number of classes of the frequency distribution]. Draw a histogram and comment on the shape of the expenditure data. What information carries the frequency histogram? e) Summarise the frequency, the total dollars spent, and the mean amount spent per transaction for each day of the week. What observations can you make about the clothing business based on the day of the week? Discuss. f) Summarise the frequency, the total dollar spent, and the mean amount spent per transaction for each type of browser. What observation you can make about clothing business based on the type of browser. Construct a pie-chart and discuss the effect of browser. g) Develop a scatter diagram and compute the sample correlations coefficient to explore the relationship between the number of website pages viewed and the amount spent. Use horizontal axis for the number of website pages viewed. Interpret the value of correlation and discuss the relationship.
