Top piece of bread:

  1. The first sentence introduces the quote (describes the role of the person who said it or the document it was taken from). Find this information in the summary of your source that you wrote in your essay proposal.

ex. I n the Autism Journal article “How children on the autism spectrum gained attention skills,” the researchers invited 18 autistic children who had problems with attention span to take horse riding therapy.

Sentence 5: transition word and intro to second quote

In addition to the parents’ comments about their children’s attentiveness, their teachers also reported to the authors increased attention spans during the weeks the kids had the horse therapy (Bass et al., 2009).

Sentence 6: second quote including in-text citation.

Ex. “But when there was a break in the program, teachers saw a decline in [the children’s] attention in their school setting” (Ward, Whalon, Rusnak, Wendell & Paschall, 2013, p. 291). Sentence 7: sentence explaining the quote and relating it to your topic sentence claim.
