Pregnancy Appointment summary and questions.

Nulliparous women have 10, Multiparous have 7.

Appointment When? With whom? Tests done Purpose Booking appointment

When woman realises, she is pregnant

  • usually 5-8 weeks

Midwife or GP  BMI  Urine dipstick  Carbon monoxide (smoking  Check blood group  Check rhesus status

 Offer screening  Decide best team e., midwife/obstetrical team

Screening tests

10 weeks At GP or hospital (ultrasound)

 blood group  rhesus D status  Anaemia  Hep B  HIV  Rubella  Urine dipstick  Gestational age (ultrasound)

Down’s Screening

11 weeks • Combined test at 11 weeks 0 to 13 weeks 6 days - Serum screening test at 15 weeks 0 days to 20 weeks 0 days

Check appointment

16 weeks Measure blood pressure and test urine for proteinuria

 Review and discuss the results of any screening tests

  • Investigate a haemoglobin level before 11g/100ml and consider iron supplementation

Anomaly scan Between 18 and 20 weeks

  • An ultrasound scan should be performed to detect any structural anomalies
  • If a placenta is found

to extend across the internal cervical OS at the time of the scan another scan at 32 weeks should be offered

Check appointment

25 weeks all nulliparous women at Midwife/hospital as outpatient

 Measure and plot the symphysis – fundal height (SFH)  BP

 Protein urine test Check appointment

28 weeks All women, not just nulliparous, as outpatient with midwife

 Second screening for Anaemia, offer iron supplementation - Offer anti D prophylaxis to Rhesus negative women - Measure SFH, BP and Urine

Check appointment

31 weeks Nulliparous women are offered an appointment at 31 weeks to measure BP, urine and SFH as well as discuss any screening results.

Check appointment

34 weeks  A second dose an anti D is given to rhesus negative women  Measure BP, urine and SFH, and discuss any further screening tests that occurred at 28 weeks if not done so at the 31-week
