The Impact of Comparative and Evidence-Based Research in Healthcare Profitability for Global Health and Societal Development

Quishaun D. Holmes American InterContinental University: HCM Instructor Dr. Tim White 06/13/

Introduction This paper is a mandatory writing assignment necessary for graduate higher order learning and application of healthcare delivery system knowledge and analytical practical research techniques acquired in the Healthcare Administration course at the American InterContinental University.

Herein is inscribed an instructional scenario provided for practical implementation of the course objectives, specifically the objectives as outlined in Unit 5 of the Healthcare Administration course which are to “(1) differentiate the primary goals of nonprofit health organizations and for- profit health organizations in the US and (2) differentiate the strengths and weaknesses associated with various types of healthcare delivery systems in the U. from patient, provider, administrator, and third-party payer perspectives” (American InterContinental University, [AIU], 2022).

The two previously listed differentiation tactics are analytical research techniques that will be used to explore and resolve the inquiries found in the two-part scenario simulator.

Two-Part Case Scenario

Part 1:

Despite the documented challenges that the U. health care system faces, it also enjoys a number of advantages over other systems around the world.

and surgical care and research.  Healthcare administration is the technical organization and operation of the healthcare facilities (hospitals, clinics, etc.) at all levels of care (primary, secondary, and tertiary) within private and public sectors.

medical practices from foreign nations and non-governmental organizations.  Has an active governmental agency known as the Liberian Ministry of Health focused on developing “health care providers and health managers” (Talbert-Sagle, 2021).

(Aruba, 2022).  Home of the competitive, affordable, and accredited American University School of Medicine.  Provides and represents major medical specialties

Administrator’s Comparisons

America vs. Liberia America vs. Aruba The administrator would compare the status and quality of healthcare management and administration between the two countries and would suggest that America owns and operates a more independent, up-to-date, efficient, and all-inclusive healthcare system than Liberia. Liberia is an underdeveloped

in Aruba because there are consistent and readily available emergency and specialty healthcare facilities in America.

3 rd Party

Third-party Payer’s Perspective America Liberia Aruba Strengths  Health care is provided by the government, employers, and individual programs that accepts major private and public health insurance plans for “the elderly, low- income and their children, disabled, and veterans” (AIU, 2022).

Strengths  In recent healthcare economic developments there has begun a multi- corporation consortium developed to enhance the quality and quantity of healthcare services and products in Liberia. Third-payer parties have manifested through the formation of this group collective which includes

Strengths  Third-party payers would perceive that the external funding in the form of “international health insurance” in Aruba’s healthcare sector is applicably available and adequately substantial to cover healthcare costs for “Aruban residents, expats, and digital nomads” (Expat Financial, 2022).  Third-party payers

Third-party Payer’s Comparisons America vs. Liberia America vs. Aruba In comparison to Liberia’s healthcare system, the American healthcare system has provided critical financial healthcare aid to the Liberian healthcare system through the formation of the USAID organization. USAID stands for the U Agency for International Development and it has provided lengthy and impactful investments to Liberia’s healthcare system that increased the quality and affordability of healthcare services in Liberia. Comparatively, the U. is applying and deploying its finances and professionals to Liberia to stimulate the growth and development of Liberia’s healthcare system.

The available healthcare organizations and providers in Aruba do not accept many insurance plans, making healthcare affordability expensive, creating limitations to out-of-pocket payments, and requiring new and more third-party payers to get involved. The United States has firmly established its Department of Health and Human Services with the subunit of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services which provides financial healthcare assistance and full coverage services to citizens.

Part 2:

Identify a nonprofit health care organization and a for-profit health care organization of your choosing (not an organization mentioned in part 1). Answer the following:

Suggestions

Nonprofit Organization: Johns Hopkins Medicine For-profit Organization: Doctors Community Hospital Providing at least two suggestions for Johns Hopkins Medicine to minimize its weaknesses. My first suggestion to Johns Hopkins Medicine is to develop housing communities for relocating residents in areas where the hospital is expanding and causing plighted gentrification. My second suggestion is for Johns Hopkins Medicine to become more philanthropic and apply diligent efforts to invest in local Baltimore City schools where STEM programs are present or absent and begin to train and incentivize the underserved and impoverished student populations for professional administrative and medical occupations at Johns Hopkins.

Providing at least two suggestions for Doctors Community Hospital to minimize its weaknesses. Suggestion 1: Strive to define the meaning or the cancer affected body systems that are noted as Other or Ill-Defined in the hospital’s Cancer Annual Report (Doctors Community Hospital, 2018).
