Technology does not make us more alone
Technology is a useful tool, and it supposed to help us to be more connected with each
other, but people seem to make it look bad for many reasons. We can easily catch some moments
like a group of friends checking their phones while hanging out. Most people on the subway also
have their eyes on the screen, or people with their devices up to take pictures of a concert. In
other words, people claim that technology is running the world. It makes us disconnected from
others. For me, if that is what people are seeing, then they are not seeing enough. There are three
main facts why technology does not make us alone: people lack self-control, technology is
claimed to be fake because of how people using it, and people who use it are judged more than
those who do not use it. It should be just us that make ourselves alone. It is our decision, not the
technology.
People seem to lack self-control, and they do not know how to keep themselves from
temptation. Technology is not bad. A smart phone cannot make us use them. We are the ones
who decide to use it, so we should not blame the technology but ourselves. There is a statement
said that there will always be someone awake to “like” our latest status update on facebook, but
when it comes to friends, quantity does not equal quality. I do not agree with the statement. The
truth is, even if technology and social media do not exist, we are still have just a few close
friends in real life. The more you grow older, the more friends you start to lose. I believe that
everyone has a few real friends, the rest are just social friends. Social media is where you share
our pictures or videos with people. It is just a tool that helps you to keep in touch with others.
There is nothing to do with quality or quantity. People use technology for a variety of purposes.
