Maintaining Physical Health and Relationships 1

Early Adulthood Interviews Grand Canyon University, BHS- June 5th, 2022

By Brittany Price

Early Adulthood Interviews Everyone has different point of views, values, cultural beliefs, and different personality traits as well that make them who they are. The maturation principle was founded by B. Roberts, D. Wood and A. Caspi in 2008, meaning that someone’s personality eventually develops in a mature direction when they reach a certain age during adolescence and young adulthood (Leikas, Salmela-Aro, 2014). In this essay, I have interviewed three young adults of the same age, Brian, Desiree, and Lacey who have similar but different answers to each question. These questions are about their views on how teens should maintain their physical health, points in which they knew they entered adulthood, what defines a healthy relationship and how culture and values contribute to it, when you can tell that it is the right time to move on with your partner and some signs that you should end the relationship, how to balance your work and life and how to establish those boundaries. Maintaining Physical Health Having a healthy diet and doing physical activity can limit the loss of muscle and bone mass, body fat, thinning of the skin, and cardiovascular disease when older (Berk, 2018). The three people I interviewed all said that they recommend that teens eat health, drink water, and exercise three to four times a week. Brian and lacey both said to do some sort of sport through middle or high school to prevent any biological aging and Desiree said to get some good sleep because when you are older, it is hard to come by when you have responsibilities like children and a job. Getting out, being active with friends and eating healthy can help prevent any diseases or cancers such as, cardiovascular, diabetes, and kidney damages. But as a young adult currently, Brian and Desiree both said that they do not exactly follow these now, but try their best to not eat

take the time to try to understand where someone is coming from. And at the same time, not everyone who are friends or partners together have the same beliefs or values. As humans we come from different families who all raises us differently and it is up to us to be mature when talking about our likes, dislikes, our values, cultures and beliefs. When to Move On in a Relationship and When to End It? Ending a relationship can be so hard on someones mental health and phsycial health sometimes. Ending a friendship that last years or even a relationship wiith your significnt other an be hard on a person. Coming out of a relationship can result in depression, anxiety, unwanted thoughts of suicide sometimes and even just sadness. But, when with someone who lights up your world, you are comfortable with and can feel in your gut that it is the right decision to move with this person then so be it. Brian, Desiree and Lacey all said it is a good time to move on when you feel comfortable, ready, happy, and have that respect and mutual understand of when to take these next steps in a relationship. If this is something that does not feel right, then it might have to come to an end. Frequent fighting, lack of trust, communication, and understanding can damage a relationship. How to Establish a Healthy Work-Life Balance and Make Boundaries Balancing work and your life can be so stressful. Especially if you have children of your own or if your boss at work takes advantage of your hard working skills, it might be hard to make yourself get up for work. Brian and lacey both said that their boss takes advantage of them at their job because of how much of a hard worker they are and that they have a hard time saying “no” to tasks that are asked of them. Desiree said that she is a stay at home mother, but her boyfriend works and provides the income for the both of them. They support one another and that desiree gives him his space when he needs it, but as long as they have some sort of

agreement that she can still spend time with him, but he can also have his own “me-time” to go to the gym and play video games with his friends. He also supports her by full-filling her needs as a mom to take care of the baby when she needs breaks. Having this support for one another can give them the best relationship and can make sure it will last with the best communication. For Brian and Lacey, it is important for them to set boundaries for themselves. They both tell their bosses that, “no” they cant work on this at this time, and take the time to do their hobbies when they feel overwhelmed at work.

Everyone has a different point of view of how teens should maintain their physical health, points in which they knew they entered adulthood, what defines a healthy relationship and how culture and values contribute to it, when you can tell that it is the right time to move on with your partner and signs that you should end the relationship, how to balance your work and life and how to establish those boundaries. In this generation of twenty-five year olds might have different expectation for their friends and significant others. But, communication and understanding is something that all generations can relate to one another. Taking care of your body is very important so you do not develop any diseases, cancer, or mental health illnesses.

Start a new page for each table, include a table number and table title for each, as shown on this page. All explanatory text appears in a table note that follows the table, such as this one. Use the Table/Figure style to get the spacing between table and note. Tables in APA format can use single or 1 line spacing. Include a heading for every row and column, even if the content seems obvious. To insert a table, on the Insert tab, tap Table. New tables that you create in this document use APA format by default.]
