Topic 1
What effect do you believe the Model Code of Ethics for Educators might have on your educational experience? The Model Code of Ethics for Educators will have a great impact on my educational experience in the sense that it clearly states right from wrong. The one that speaks to me the most is the Responsibility to the School Community. I strongly feel communication is especially vital in education. Education changes so rapidly that being able to communicate about it, is truly the best way to make certain you have all the information. If I hear about a new policy or a new law, it prompts me to do my research about it, which in turn assists me in fulfilling that it is followed properly. This also helps in promoting my relationships with my students, their families, and the community.

Being motivated to excel is an essential part of being a successful student. Reflect on your motivation. What motivated you to enroll in GCU? What will you do to stay motivated to be a successful student throughout your undergraduate career? I have always been wanted to be a teacher or work in special needs. I have a special needs sister and she has been my motivation since we were little. She is older than me, but I’ve always taken care of her. Finding out that GCU had a dual degree for early childhood and special needs is the ultimate factor that motivated me to enroll here. It is a 2 Birds 1 stone kind of thing for me. I will stay motivated by looking at the bigger picture of having a degree to continue to fulfill that childhood dream of mine. My children also motivate me. I am determined to show them how important an education is and following your dreams are.

The Model Code of Ethics for Educators will have many effects on my educational experience. The one that I feel means the most is my responsibility to the school community. Communication is an important factor with-in my responsibility, I have to my community. Many teachers maneuver through their career with little to no communication to their families. This makes educators as a whole look bad because communication is something that parents/guardians look for in their child’s educators. You are completely right about community being an important factor. Without it, you cannot be a good educator. Your community is what provides fundraising items, assistance and communicating needs for your school. Communication is particularly important factor in being successful as an educator. This also helps no child being left behind in any sense, not just their education. You must have Maslow’s pyramid met before a child is ready to receive a good education. It is our job as educators to make sure that is met and if it’s not how we can help it happen. Having your community makes that process that much easier.

The Model Code of Ethics for Educators will always affect my educational experience because it is the standards that I, as an educator need to achieve. I know that I will be more effected by Principle 3,4 and 5 in my school district. Educators where l live are very student and community oriented. Since COVID 19 the use of technology is becoming more common which means as an educator, I need to make sure that it is being used correctly by myself and students.
Great point about technology being a key factor in today’s education world. Without it, so many students would be so far behind. I feel students are going to be behind because of COVID- 19, but technology makes it easier to not be grade levels behind. Unfortunately, we cannot monitor as closely what the students are using the technology for, even though most districts send home Chromebooks for students. Personally, I have one child that hates the Chromebook, so he opts to use the desktop at home. His grades are passing with mostly A’s, so I don’t worry as much. However, I have another child that doesn’t have an alternative option and gets in trouble frequently for misusing the school issued device.

I feel that my motivation is being able to provide for my family. After my husband died, I was the sole provider for my children. I had a son in engineering school at an awfully expensive prestigious university where we live, and a daughter that I had to provide for. I didn't want my son to have to drop out of school because we didn't have the resources needed for him to complete his education. I own and operate a dance studio; however, COVID-19 closed my doors. I felt I needed to try and complete my education to give us more stability in the future. My children and my elderly mother are my motivation to complete my education. I had reservations about going back to school until a friend of mine enrolled at GCU. That friend put me in contact with a counselor who helped direct me and helped me get started.
I will stay motivated for many reasons. However, I feel that stability is my biggest reason. I want to feel secure in my future and that motivates me every day.
First, my condolences regarding your husband. I can only imagine how hard that is for you. It sounds like you have some great children and that seems to be a wonderful motivator. Stability is also a great motivator. I can empathize with you needing to feel that stability again. A few years ago, my children and I were bouncing from couch to couch, I was unemployed and my husband at the time was going through some mental health issues. This went on for 7 months, all I yearned for was stability. I was able to secure a job and an apartment that helped with that. However, getting back into childcare and school has given me that stability. I applaud you for going back to school to get that successful feeling again.

The model of ethics is something important that each teacher, or student wanting to be a teacher should familiarize themselves with. The purpose of the model of ethics, is to serve as an ethical guide for students wanting to become teachers or for teachers themselves, who are faced with the complexities of P-12 education. This code exhibits beliefs that are meant for ethical practice. Mindfulness, self-reflection, making decisions, and setting the foundation for self-regulation and accountability. There are five principles that are expected of an educator, after reading through some of them I now can answer the question how will these codes of ethics help me here at GCU? Maintaining a professional relationship as well as a fair and respectful one, lets me know I can trust you as a person and depend on your words and guidance as a student here at GCU. When I feel respected and am treated fair, I work extra hard for success, and am not afraid to ask a question if I do not fully understand something.

I like how you state your desire is to move with purpose in life. Your post makes me feel like you were given this path is going to take you far in your career. I agree with you about the positive impact you will have on the children that come across your path. Education is unfortunately not a high paying field monetarily, but the full heart is more than enough. The impact you have will be more effect on your career, I believe.

What motivated me to enroll in GCU was that this college had what I was looking for. All the colleges that I looked at had early childhood education, but they didn't have special early childhood education. I wanted to study both fields because it's important to me. I will stay motivated to be a successful student throughout my undergraduate career by reminding myself why I’m doing it. I have seen a lot of special needs kids be treated badly because they have a different way of learning. I want to make a difference in someone's life by treating them like anyone else should be treated. Tiffany, You and I both chose GCU for the same reason. I, too, wanted to have a degree in both Early childhood and Special Education in early childhood. This is my career field right now and I hope to have this degree to aid me in getting into public schools. Early intervention is so important; however, I feel in preschools and kindergarten in public schools, the children do not have the resources available to be completely successful.
