Loews Hotels: Training for Four-

Diamond Service and More

Summary Loews Hotel and Resorts was a New York based hotel chain headquartered in Madison Avenue in New York City, and owned subsidiary of Loews Corporaion. Loews Hotels and Resorts are operated by the Tisch’s family. Loews Corporaion revenue in 2013 was recorded at 15 billion US dollars, and it had a number of 18,175 employees. Loews recognized that in order to execute on the company’s global growth strategy, manpower, and talent planning would play an important role. To atain this goal, Loews selected Training and Development program as a key component of the Human Resources processes.

According to the aricle in the Managing Human Resources book, Loews designs a lot of training programs for both managers and employees such as: “Living Loews”, “Green”, or “Loews Meeing Experience”. The objecive of training programs is to align with the company’s business strategy of the “Four Diamonds and More”. Employees get a beter understanding of the mission, values, and goals of the company and it can moivate them to provide excepional customer service. Loews encourages its employees to be customer centric because the quality of service difereniates one company from another. The employees have direct contact with customers so it is crucial to make the employees understand the importance of meeing and exceeding goals set out by HR.

  1. How do Loews training programs relate to the company’s business strategy? The company’s strategy is to achieve 4 diamonds and more for their service. They wanted to be known for memorable service, and win over their new customers so that they’ll eventually become loyal customers. Loews training relates back to the business strategy because they train everyone from all levels about the goals and quality service of the hotel. They train their employees in all aspects as to how to deal with customers, even if things don’t go according to
