Famotidine anti-ulcer agent

Inhibits the action of histamine at the H receptor site located primarily in gastric parietal cells.

PO (oral suspensions, premixed infusion, tablets)As, IV.

May decrease absorption of ketoconazole, itraconazole, atazanavir, gefitinib.

Hypersensitivity. renal impairment.

Confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, arrhythmias, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, neutropenia,

Short term treatment of active duodenal ulcers. Treatment of heart burn, acid indigestion, sour stomach. Prevention.

Assess for abdominal pain.

Decrease in abdominal pain, heartburn, acid indigestion, prevention of gastric irritation and bleeding.

Instruct patient to take medication as directed for the full course of therapy; advise patient that smoking interferes with the medication. May cause drowsiness or dizziness.
