November 28th Assignment #5 -A Business Leader You Admire and Why? Across the world, there are a plethora of businesses and companies that exist. Every business needs a leader for a sense of direction as well as taking the company to successful heights. There have been many successful companies throughout history and many successful business leaders. However, out of all the business leaders there have been, the one that has always stood out to me has been Steve Jobs Steve Jobs is a leader I admire for several reasons. The first reason I admire Steve Jobs is because of the innovation that he possessed. Steve Jobs most definitely did not invent a new device, but he improved on already existing technology. Not only did he improve on existing technology, but he did so in a way that appealed to consumers and improves facets of people's lives. When we look at devices such as Macs, iPhones, iPads, iPods, etc, we can see that these are all devices that have existed but with a user friendly interface and making parts of life easier. The iPod for example, took the mp3 concept and advanced it by allowing users to have more songs stored than ever before. The iPhone when introduced, took the smartphone concept and progressed by allowing using users to use a touch screen phone and have connection to the internet. The iPad revitalized the tablet market but giving a user friendly interface providing multiple apps for users to use. Another reason why I admire Steve Jobs is because of his drive. Steve Jobs is someone who is highly motivated and this can be seen through his various endeavors. This can be very well seen through his investment in Pixar. Pixar which we all know as one of the most successful

animation studios, was able to be as successful as it was due to Jobs vision. Jobs’ initial investment was around $5 million dollars which he was eventually able to sell to Disney for $7. billion dollars. Aside from Pixar, we can even see through all the devices that the company put out that Jobs was motivated to keep on improving and innovating technology. Another quality that I admire the most about Jobs was his focus. This quality can be especially seen through his return to Apple in 1997. One of the most infamous moments of when Jobs’ returned to the company was during a product review session, he told everyone “stop this is crazy” and told the team to focus on consumer, pro, portable, and desktop. He told his team that this is what they should be focussing on and all other products should be scrapped. During his first few years back, he reduced the amount of products Apple put out from 350 to 10. This quality of focus can also be seen in the products that the company put out. Jobs’ was always focused on details and this can be seen in the user friendly yet minimalistic designs of the products. Although there many other business leaders who are successful in their own ways for their respective traits, Steve Jobs is someone who I have admired for a very long time. His innovation, focus, and drive are just some of the few reasons as to why I admire Steve Jobs. Aside from all the qualities that I listed, the one quality that I always admired the most about him was his motivation to leave something lasting behind. Not only did he want to leave something behind that would last, but something that would genuinely help the lives of others.
