Problem Statement

Hudson River Fashion is a small business that specializes in designer clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories. Currently, the store only offers a basic website that only offers a minimal list of items that are only purchasable in the store. Customers have no options to make purchases online. The main problem is that HRF is not competitive with other similar business who are already utilizing e-commerce solutions that offer ease of use and constant presence and purchasing ability. This reduces HRF ability to generate revenue outside of store hours. HRF competitors can attract and market to a wider customer base outside of one geographical location and are leading the market share of the fashion product industry. Hudson River Fashion’s owner wants to promote business growth and focus more on its customers. The business owner is looking for a solution based on analysis of current business model and implement technology solutions that will meet the following key requirements to grow the business and become competitive while providing better service and presence for its current and prospective customers: integrate e-commerce options, manage inventory and shipping, provide online payment processing, facilitate collaboration and communication internally amongst employees and management and marketing and communicating with customers, manage customer contact information and utilizing the new technology to manage the current brick-and-mortar processes which includes sales, payments, inventory, and customer database. Currently, the physical location struggles with managing customer information and does not have a reporting tool to help management make informed decisions.

Two Technologies

Cloud computing will allow Hudson River Fashion to store and backup their data to remote servers rather than it stored on an internal server or computer in a static location. Remote servers allow faster processing and communication and cost savings on managing physical storage and maintenance of hardware. Cloud computing also provides more efficient communication with staff and customers and can store a wide variety of data from shopping habits, preferences, CRM solutions that can allow 24/7 access to documents, emails, data, and streamline the ability to integrate all forms of communication used into one system to track its efficiency and store more customer driven data that can be later accessed to provide better marketing and e-commerce solutions. Business analytics and business intelligence solutions allow for discovery of insights quickly. HRF can explore data easily by using conversational language and get meaningful answers to data questions asked in their own words. It can also allow for insights instantly from mobile applications using pre-built data visualization and report templates and provide access anytime of the day. HRF can utilize this technology to prioritize analytics by pinning relevant content, and ensure others see valuable insights by promoting them using administrative tools. Business analytic technology can allow HRF to govern their data securely and help prevent data loss with centrally managed, role-specific data protection and security. This data can be safeguarded and regulated so that it meets the compliance standards and certifications for their industry.

keep customers and prospects engaged. Implementing this new technology will provide a path to remaining competitive to current companies already using technology to provide ease of use and world class support to customers driving not only revenue but market share, word of mouth and customer satisfaction.

Business Requirements

To effectively solve the current business problem, this technology needs to be capable of providing databases with anytime access, ease of use and able to be used cross platform by staff and management. Lead generation and consistent communication with past and current customers data is needed to provide cost savings and precise marketing plans to continue driving growth and a wider base of customers and to track their satisfaction and provide solutions in a timely manner. The databases must provide security measures that meet current laws and business ethics. There must also be a requirement of the technology to provide collaboration between staff and management. As well as in Telligent analysis generating reports and database storage. There must also be a requirement to manage on going customer interaction and communication.

Competitors and Technology

HRF has strong competition from Zappos and Kohls. Zappos is an online retailer that primarily sells shoes, but also expanded into clothing and accessories. The company was founded in 1999 as an online shoe retailer but as they grew more and more successful, they expanded and began offering a wider assortment of products. Zappos was bought by Amazon in 2009. Since Zappos joined Amazon, they use Amazon cloud computing which is number one in

cloud computing services globally. The use of the cloud has been a success for Zappos. Zappos was already known for their world class customer service and purchasing options but with cloud computing they have grown exponentially from the use of technology and found they had to divide the company into different departments in order to keep up with their consistency in customer service and satisfaction. Another competitor is Kohls. Kohls is an example of a brick-and-mortar store with e- solutions and an online presence so that customers can shop for their products anytime and anywhere. The one difference is that they sell everything from clothing to kitchen appliances and electronics. Kohls uses intelligent systems throughout their stores. They integrate cloud computing for the entirety of the business. Kohls states on its website, “We are operating more efficiently, saving costs and opening up opportunities to invest in even better tools to assist our customers and associates.” The integration of business analytics and intelligent systems allows Kohls to be one of the frontrunners when it comes to retail business and ecommerce. This is proven by the fact they maintain second in market share behind Walmart. Utilizing these technologies has allowed Kohl’s to provide better customer experiences and products. It has also allowed them to market and advertise to customers in precise strategies that drive in customer loyalty and new customers. They have also used this technology to streamline their digital presence to integrate with their brick and mortar stores. Zappos and its parent company Amazon have proven to the global business world that cloud computing is the future and has real world practical implications for cost savings and growth. The cost of maintaining a dedicated physical infrastructure, whether small business oriented or a large corporation is extremely high and those dependent on static servers to maintain their digital presence are showing below par performance. It is argued that cloud

requirements, it’s easy to just type your own footnote references and notes. To format a footnote reference, select the number and then, on the Home tab, in the Styles gallery, click Footnote Reference. The body of a footnote, such as this example, uses the Normal text style. (Note: If you delete this sample footnote, don’t forget to delete its in-text reference as well. That’s at the end of the sample Heading 2 paragraph on the first page of body content in this template.)]
