Counties

The main inputs to health mentioned in the case are weakness in primary care, diet and lack of exercise, tobacco and alcohol use in Wyandotte County. There are other important inputs to health that the case did not capture, such as, would the health and lifestyle of the Wyandotte population improve if more healthcare products, primary care physicians and dentists, as well as lifestyle programs, were introduced? Addressing all the health behaviors is important if the overall health of the population is going to improve. However, reducing the obesity rate and getting the population to become physically active is very important. Implementing programs geared toward this, would aid the population in making healthy lifestyle changes (Economics for Healthcare Managers 2019). The household income for a family does play a role in improving health. A two-income family will definitely have more to spread across living expenses, which include being able to buy more nutritious food for the family. As seen in the case, the percentage of low income and single-parent households in Wyandotte contributed to the economic challenges of the county. As seen in the case, there were fewer primary care physicians in Wyandotte and a higher percentage of those without health insurance. This means that without insurance, these families are less likely to go to a doctor when they are sick, if they have to pay out of pocket (Economics for Healthcare Managers 2019). Having adequate primary care physicians to care for residents in a community is important but should not be a priority in this case. In my opinion, educating the population on making healthy lifestyles choices, such as becoming physically active, can contribute to a reduction in the number of visits to the doctor’s office, and therefore this should be priority. The role of the federal government is important in helping the healthcare of its residents. For example, in Wyandotte, they federal government launched a number of projects to encourage residents to exercise more, quit smoking,
