HSE- 101

Whitney M. Smart

During the past 6 weeks I have learned so much about the human service field that I did not

know before. One of the many things I have learned about is the helping process, which is a way

for human service professionals to carefully help their clients in the best way possible the best

fits the needs of the person they are helping without suggesting or giving advice as that is not in

the best interest of the client. I have also learned about different agencies within human services

by fellow classmates in our weekly discussion boards. Human services has a wide range of

organization from the VA to the local human services building and also caseworkers. I have also

learned about the code of ethics and how important that is to human services. Today the codes

are used for culture competence that has 3 dimensions. the first one is awareness, second is

understand and the last one is skill. When tied together, the professional can better help the client

to the best of their ability. I am looking forward to starting my career in the human service field

to help others achieve their personal goals. I will use everything I have learned thus far in my

person and professional life to be a better example for those around me.
