Learning Disabilities and Special Education
Through
Social and Natural Science Lenses
Faiza Salman IDS 100 10/21/
Introduction
The focal point of this presentation is Learning Disabilities
and Special Education examined through lenses of social and
natural science.
I chose this topic because I wanted to learn what is the root-cause of learning disabilities? I was eager to learn why this problem is on rise these days? I was interested in knowing that what are the most effective strategies to tackle this problem and help students with learning disabilities?
Social science focuses on different teaching methods, improvement in students through learning, and training teachers with the latest and the most advanced strategies to tackle this problem.
Learning Disabilities & Special
Education and Natural Science
There is a strong connection between learning disabilities & special education, fetus development inside the womb, and early childhood. Certain genes passed from either parent affect brain development that later cause learning disabilities. During the pregnancy mothers who were placed on bed rest, experienced heavy bleeding, and took prescription medicines, later their kids showed signs of learning disabilities.
Convergence
Similarities between these two lenses surpass
science factor
oBoth lenses emphasis on the significance of the special education once the child is diagnosed with learning disabilities. oBoth lenses need factual data to investigate and get better answers.
Divergence
Both lenses look into the problem of learning
disabilities and special education in different ways
oSocial science talks about the possible solution to help students with LD through special education and improve them using different strategies. oNatural science focus on the root-cause of the problem like human factors. For example, it talks about fetus’s brain development, chromosomal abnormalities, and mother’s condition during pregnancy.
Further Exploration
For further exploration, I would like to know if
learning disabilities are gender specified. Like who is
more vulnerable to this girls or boys.
Can vaccines cause LD?
oVaccine toxicity, Aluminum, and mercury content in vaccines.
Is our lifestyle contributing to the problem?
oFood we consume, daily activities, and exposure to technology.
Conclusion
- What I have understood through my research is, learning disability is a neurological defect that can occur inside the womb or during early infancy period but the best part is, there is a lot of help that these kids can get. They can get good education, have a good future, and function normally in the society. Teachers are well-trained to educate kids with learning disabilities through special education programs.
