Core Values Essay  Courage, Commitment, and Integrity

Over the years, I am sure I have thought a few times about who I am. Not just who I am, but what makes me who I am and how I choose to live my life. Week one of this course, who knew I would give myself answers to questions I’ve been asking myself lately. I had the chance to think about my core values and why I have them and where did they originate for me. I have several core values that apply to my life daily. Courage is one of my core values. Courage is the mental, moral, and physical strength that was deeply embedded in me by my family. To have courage is to be brave. I once read that “Bravery implies true courage with daring and an intrepid boldness.” Courage is an essential core value in life. Courage gives you the confidence to be yourself, even in the face of criticism. I would have never accomplished any goal I sought out for myself in life without courage. I was so skeptical of going back to school after ten plus years. My family taught me early on as a child to only fear, fear itself. They always told me not to let nothing and no one deter me from my dreams or goals I had in life. What my family instilled in me will always stick with me. It is my inner strength that allows you to take the next step. I chose to be brave and finish what I started. I never was afraid of much growing up, and I don’t plan on changing that now.

I was born into a family whose reputation is held to a high standard. As society would call them “stand up people.” This brings me to my next core value commitment, which goes hand-in-hand with my need to be courageous. My greatest strength has come from the energy of commitment. It is the spirit of determination and dedication. Commitment is what transforms your promises into reality. I pride myself on being one a person who is reliable. It offers a personal level of security. Humans are limited beings, and we need stability to function. I am sure that not a single soul walking on Earth wants to enter any type of relationship, whether personal or business, with someone who doesn’t value commitment. Commitment can be compelling and influence the way you think and act. It is one of the essential principles of success. It is the commitment you made that will help you push through your struggles and achieve excellence in every endeavor. Commitment keeps you going. I remember when I graduated from middle school, my grandfather said to me these next four years were going to shape me into who I would become in life. My grandfather was such a wise man so, much of what he spoke always stuck with me. He always said to me, “act with integrity; integrity is everything.” He influenced the reason I choose to live a life with integrity. Integrity is about being your most authentic self. It is a commitment, to be honest, and truthful in every part of your life. Integrity is the foundation of your character, personality, and enhances human potential. I honestly believe the quality of a person you are is determined by how well you live up
