8 6/19/2021 Interviews of Health Care Professionals (face to face)

Beth Mitchell, RN BSN Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus 201 West Center Street, Rochester, MN 55902 Mitchell@mayo

1 Beth participated in a few shifts a week for a couple month period of administering COVID shots at Mayo when they became available to staff, and then also the general public. She received face to face training about how to administer the vaccine correctly into the deltoid muscle. She explained that they also reviewed the informational sheet that was provided by the CDC and their recommendations about the vaccine, the side effects to look out for, and who to report any major side effects to. She had to go over the fact sheet with each individual and made sure one last time they wanted to get the vaccine, and then administered the shot. She said she took a lot of pride in being part of the vaccine clinic so early on because she felt she was making a different and really fighting to help stop the spread of COVID and help the pandemic slow down and come to an end. 9 7/1/2021 Recorded IS-230: Fundamentals of Emergency Management 6 This course helped to get a better

understanding of how FEMA came about, dating back to 1803 after the first act was put in place to help provide disaster relief after a fire in New Hampshire. Since then, many acts and orders have been put in place to provide prevention, planning and responses to disasters. The course also discusses how different organizations work with the government, and who is in charge of what in these disaster situations. When COVID- became a global pandemic, a state of emergency was declared within the U. FEMA guidelines became the determining factors as to how this pandemic came about, what needs to be done in order to help prevent the spread, treat it, and then how to handle getting the world back into order once it is better under control/over. The earlier emergency response is activated, the better the outcome typically, so it is crucial to have set plans and guidelines in place as this course taught me. This course also discussed the importance of everyone involved with the emergency to comply with the suggested course of action to help prevent the spread and severity of the emergency. It seems we have run into that problem as it has been over a year now with COVID-19 as an issue, and this is highly due to the non-compliance of masking, social distancing and proper hygiene. 10 7/6/2021 Interview of Health Care Professionals

Chris Gosselin RN MSN Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus 201 West Center Street, Rochester, MN 55902

1 Chris worked in the Medical ICU within Methodist hospital as the pandemic started and rapidly started growing in numbers. For a

unit was the area that all patients went who had COVID but were fine enough to not be in the ICU. Many of the patients were on very high oxygen requirements using face masks, and a lot of the time on BiPaP. It became very draining on their staff to be taking care of these sick patients in isolation rooms day in and out. There were also many instances of staff acquiring COVID from such continuous close contact, and multiple staff at a time so that led to inadequate staffing. 13 8/25/2021 Live Webinar Telehealth: A Flash in the Pan(demic) of Here for the Long Haul?

National Conference of State Legislature (NCSL) 444 North Capitol Street, N., Suite 515 Washington, D. 20001 Phone: 202-624- Moderator: Jack Pitsor (jack@ncsl) ncsl/research/health/telehealth-a-flash-in-the- pan-demic-or-here-for-the-long-haul-webinar

1 This webinar discussed the changes in telehealth after the start of the pandemic. Many policy changes have had to happen due to more people needing to use telehealth services because they are unable to be seen in person. Millions of dollars have recently been invested in bettering telehealth due to the large amount of people needing to use telehealth now. Services have had to expand in order to better serve the population. A lot of the money has gone into training as well, so providers feel well equipped to meet with patients virtually. The takeaway from this was also that it has been observed that telehealth is very beneficial for patients and so many services can be provided virtually that even after the pandemic is over, this may be the primary choice of meeting for patients and providers. It’s also great because some people may not live near their provider or have access to get to appointments, so this is the next best thing. 14 8/25/2021 Recorded Center for Disease Control (CDC) 1 This

15 8/28/2021 Site Assessment of Community Business

Rick Le (Owner) Essential Nails 1119 Civic Center Dr NW Rochester MN, 55901 507-529-

1 I discussed with Rick the hardships of when the COVID-19 Pandemic hit. He and his wife had opened up this business a year prior to everything shutting down, which was already a big investment of money. He said it was very difficult for a bit when the pandemic hit because they had to close the shop for almost 3 months and is their main source of income. Even after they were able to open back up, it took a while for people to feel comfortable enough to get back out in the public, and for business to pick up again. They had planned on wanting to do renovations for their business this year, but obviously that had to get pushed back due to the pandemic. Once they opened back up, they took many measures to help keep everyone safe. The have installed plastic windows at each station between the worker and customer, have hand sanitizer available, and they also have signs advising to not come in if sick. Their workers wear masks, and highly encourage their customers to wear one as well. They also take precautions and thoroughly clean the stations and chairs before the next customer visits. 16 8/28/202 Site Assessment Elizabeth S. (One of store managers/operations/supervisor 2 Target has done a great job since the

to take tests, and work in groups without ever getting together in person. She also was nervous about starting work in the middle of a pandemic and while there’s a nursing shortage. She said it’s been a big adjustment but has had a lot of help from co-workers and feels like she is finally getting the hands-on experience she needs in order to feel comfortable and be on her own soon.
