Cap the flask with a lightly greased glass vacuum adapter to which a length of rubber tubing has been attached. Place the apparatus in a large beaker. You may want to cushion the round bottom with a bit with paper toweling since the glassware may get jostled when we move it for storage. Fill a medium sized testtubeabouthalfwaywithlimewaterandstabilizethetubeinabeakerorE.Flask. Submerge the free end of the rubber tubing in the limewater. The limewater prevents atmospheric oxygen from entering the fermentation solution and provides an outlet for the CO2 formed during the reaction.
