Author’s background

What are the personal information about the author? - Due to his loyalty and courageousness as the commander of battle, Santiago Alvarez is otherwise known as the Kidlat ng Apoy. He was born in Imus, Cavite on July 25, 1872. He was a part of a the Philippine military and was included as one of the heroes on the war against the Spain. (The Biography, n)

What are the significant information about the person that makes his memoirs as primary source? - Santiago Alvarez is one of the members/allies of the Magdiwang Council, he witnessed the events that happened in the election.

What were the prevailing situations depicted in the document?

  • According to the Journal of Southeast Asian Studies, the account was written by Santiago Alvarez in the year 1927. The Katipunero’s agreed on the decision that they are fighting for their freedom of the native land and not as bandits.

  • On March 25th, 1987 an assembly took place in Tejeros.

of Tirona shouting and not paying respect to their agreement and the results of the election.

  • His narrative may be biased because he is part of the Magdiwang Council and is close to Andres Bonifacio.

What idea(s) does the document provides in helping us understand about our past as a people? - As you go over with the Memoir of a General, you can see how they managed/handled their government even though others are not in favor of their decisions. They focused on the major issues before dealing with the minor ones. Even though people are not able to attend graduate or attend school, they are still able to contribute and do something good. In that case, people should be respectful towards one another and refrain from discriminating such people.
