This society has been acquainted with specific privileges that lone a gathering of individuals can accomplish, this incorporates the choice of an individual to choose and decide for their own body. It has been centuries and decades yet women are as yet battling for equal rights and reasonable social standing with men. This isn't simply as far as discrimination, stereotypes and standards yet in addition to the sharing of reasonable obligation to bearing and raising a life and future of a human being. The issue in regards to abortion has stayed widespread and critical across the entire world including the Philippines. It remains a contradicting battle of profound ethics, morals and law which stirs scathing discourse and debates from the opposition parties of the conservatives and liberals. In this concept paper the two opposing beliefs of pro-life and pro-choices will be both given an insight to the argument whether abortion should be legalized in the Philippines or not and to be able to draw the fine line of the reasons, situations and consequences of people and their choices when it comes to terms with abortion.

Abortion as defined by Grimes, 2020 is the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. As known across the world, abortion remains a taboo topic to most countries and Philippines is not an exemption. Philippines is self-identified as a religious country especially as a Catholic in which abortion goes against the morals and laws of these religious institutions. As identified by most existing laws by religious beliefs and the constitution, abortion is considered as a form of murder even If it still a fetus or an embryo it has the same and equal rights as a human being. On the other hand, the liberals firmly stand with the pro-choice, it is giving the free will to a woman to choose what to do on her own body. People who are pro-choice doesn’t necessarily makes them pro- abortion, they identify themselves as an individual who has a mutual respect to the choices of other people and understands that it is not their body for them to decide to.

It has been proven, through struggles and over time that women prevails and this may include their choice to choose for their own body. The two opposing sides of pro-life and pro-choice has its own sets of beliefs and stands when it comes to legalizing abortion that are distinct from one another. Every woman who chooses to undergo abortion has their own stories and reasons to tell that may not be valid for others but this may vary from health matters that may compromise the life of the mother, it may also because of victims of rape or sexual harassments. Other reasons that might also occur are in terms of emotional, mental, physical or financial preparedness of the parents especially in considering the life and future of the baby that will be born and also the lack of shared responsibility in certain scenarios that the father of the child refuses to take responsibility and all the burden of pregnancy and future of the child is left on the mother alone. These are the common reasons on why women choose to go through this process even if it considered illegal and extremely dangerous for the health and safety of a woman because of unauthorized or unlicensed physician or personnel who holds the scalpel. The pro-life or the conservatives are usually people from religious groups who have strong and unwavering respect to their morals and the law of God. On the contrary to this popular belief, the group of pro-choice or the liberals also dares to go against the norms of the society. These group of people stands with women and their own choices for their own bodies. No other people can make decisions and laws about a woman’s body other than herself. Over the several years, 56 million under the table abortions have been performed and this causes a lot of deaths and health complications to women. Instead of the government trying to stop people with going through abortion, a strict set of rules for case-to-case basis for abortion should be implemented instead. We cannot let or force all women to conform that is why we protect them. In addition, if we are really considering being a pro-life, we should also consider the life of the baby after they are born. With the kind

Women across the globe may have different sets of values and beliefs that they choose to embody and live out for their life but this will all boil down to separating our personal beliefs and differences to attain mutual respect and understanding. Men in the first place are not entitled for any opinion towards the life and decisions of women and more so in making laws about women’s bodies. We all know how precious life is and we should value it even if it only a fetus or an embryo- it has its rights protected by the law however may also not be driven by our emotions and let these clouds our judgement. Being responsible and accountable for our actions should always be taken into consideration as thus into protecting our womanhood and holding the men responsible for the choices they also made. Beyond the contradicting views of pro-choice and pro-life lies respect, understanding and compassion.
