ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF TECHNOLOGY IN COMMUNICATION

A. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

One of the categories of world history is the history of technology, which is the history of the invention of tools and techniques. Technology can refer to methods as simple as stone tools or as complex as genetic engineering and information technology, which have emerged since the 1980s. The term technology is derived from the Greek words techne, which means art and craft, and logos, which means word and speech. It was originally used to describe applied arts, but it is now used to describe advancements and changes that affect our surroundings.

Communication has been revolutionized in today's world, where communication technology has largely replaced personal contact. Communication technology is the use of modern technology to communicate, such as emails, cell phones, and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Because people in different geographical locations can communicate through these means, life becomes easier and more enjoyable than before. Communication technology, also known as information and communication technology (ICT), has made socializing and business easier. Video conferencing and emailing have enabled businesses and individuals to conduct business across long distances. Messaging, chatting, and texting have also made it possible for people to communicate

easily with family and friends who live in different locations.

B. EVIDENCE SUPPORTING THE AUTHOR’S POSITION

The way people communicate has been transformed by technology. Initially simple devices, they have evolved into communication channels that connect people all over the world. The telephone, radio, television, and internet are the four main types of communication technology that have contributed to the ease of sending messages. Technology aids in the smooth communication of individuals or businesses by providing alternatives that lead to effective communication. People can send messages and receive

feedback via smartphones and computers via calls, messages, and emails, respectively.

Advantages of Technology in Communication

  1. Time and speed Time and money are saved by using the internet to communicate. This is because it is much cheaper and faster to transfer data. It is also easier and faster to contact a business partner or a relative. We can now instantly communicate with anyone on the planet via emails and text messages. Face-to-face communication has also been made possible by the internet, thanks to Skype, social media sites, video conferencing, and a variety of other methods provided by communication companies.

  2. Job creation The creation of new and exciting jobs is a significant benefit of internet communication. System analysts, computer programmers, web designers, hardware and software developers, and a plethora of other new opportunities made available by information and communication technology (ICT).

  3. Globalization The internet has indeed brought people closer together, as well as aided economic growth. It has also broken down geographical and linguistic barriers. Because of information technology, the universe has become a global village, allowing countries such as Japan and Ireland, which are separated by language and distance, to share information and ideas with one another.

  4. Enhance the education sector The internet has enabled the sharing of numerous computer programs among different generations in various parts of the world. Anyone with an internet connection can easily access vital information such as health, business, and environmental facts.

  5. Eliminates the cultural gap The internet has aided in bridging the gap. People from various countries can easily communicate with one another, allowing for the exchange of ideas and points of view.

Disadvantages of Technology in Communication

  1. Unemployment Despite the fact that the internet has improved many sectors, it has resulted in job losses due to outsourcing, downsizing, and redundancies. For example, a factory can replace skilled workers with robots that can work faster and for longer periods of time.

  2. Privacy Although the internet has made communication easier, faster, and more convenient, privacy issues have arisen. From email hacking to phone signal interceptions, more and more people are becoming concerned about the security of their personal information.

  3. Lack of job security Because technology is constantly changing, job security has become an issue. This means that if IT professionals want to keep their jobs, they must constantly learn in order to keep up with the changes.

  4. Overruling cultures While the internet has turned the world into a global village, some cultures have devoured others. Teenagers in Western countries,

for example, have influenced most teenagers in other parts of the world in terms of how they dress, act, and behave.

C. DISCUSSION OF BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE, WHICH ADDRESSES AND REFUTES ARGUMENTS THAT CONTRADICT THE

AUTHOR’S POSITION.

In so many ways, technology has altered the way we communicate. It has also altered the way people conduct business as well as our personal and social lives. We can easily text, talk, and email anyone on the planet via a link. In fact, it is now possible to virtually travel to any location on the planet. Education has also advanced significantly, as it is now possible to obtain a degree from any

institution in the world if you have a computer and an internet connection.

On the other hand, internet communication has caused a slew of issues that appear to be worsening as technology advances. The

list of benefits and drawbacks of internet communication is seemingly endless; it all depends on the individual.

D. CONCLUSION

So, while the internet has undoubtedly improved our lives, it also has the potential to devastate them. Its impact on a society or a business is mostly felt through the decisions we make while using it. However, with careful application, we can reap the benefits

while avoiding many of its drawbacks.
