Written Response Portion of Exam

Primary Source Interpretation – 1 @ 10 points

Students will write a short answer response of at least 5-7 sentences analyzing a primary source image. Students should focus on answering the following questions:

What is the historical context of the image (Truman & the Cold war, Eisenhower & the 1950s, The Crisis of the 1960s, The 1970s, Reagan’s America, 1990s & the New Millennium)? What is the image depicting? What specific events or developments are relevant to the image?

Essay Question – 25 points

Two (2) of the following essay questions will be on the exam, you will choose one (1) to answer. Your answers should multifaceted details based off our class lectures. Be direct and concise.

  1. 1945-1970: What were the goals and strategies of the Civil Rights movement (at least 10-14 sentences)? What were the key achievements of the Civil Rights movement (at least 5-7 sentences)?

  2. 1968-1988: What were the social, religious, and political outlook of Reagan Republicans (at least 5-7 sentences)? Pick either Richard Nixon OR Ronald Reagan and discuss the important issues they faced and the solutions they presented (at least 10-14 sentences)?

  3. 1944-1989: What were the origins of the Cold War (at least 5- sentences)? While analyzing specific policies or doctrines, assess two (2) events in the Cold War and their impact on the United States (at least 10-14 sentences).
