Complete the graphic organizer to plan your argument. The claim has been provided.

Claim: While the Industrial Revolution had both positive and negative effects on society and the economy, the positive effects outweighed the negative. Write three logical arguments that support the claim. Be sure to include evidence to support each argument. Arguments that support the claim Evidence (Be sure to include the source.) 1: Job opportunities had a positive effect on society due to the Industrial Revolution

With more factories being opened and the industry growing, more jobs were opening for men and women. This was giving people more opportunities to provide for their families. 2: Modernization of Japan had a positive effect on the economy due to the Industrial Revolution.

In mid to late 1900s Japan started investing in regulatory systems, communication systems, and infrastructure. This also included the building of railroads, telegraph lines, and many more. This helped Japan thrive and become a lead exporter. 3: Visual arts had a positive effect on society due to the Industrial Revolution.

During the late 1800’s, visual arts developed new styles such as realism and impressionism. When these new styles of art were developed, artists started to portray what was really happening in the world. It didn't matter how shocking or dark they were. Art was also being portrayed with the changing of light using shadowing. This helped advance art in many ways. Write a counterclaim related to the claim. Hint: the counterclaim is often the opposite of the claim. Counterclaim: While the Industrial Revolution had both positive and negative effects on society and the economy, the negative effects outweigh the positive.

Write one logical argument to support the counterclaim. Be sure to include evidence to support the argument. Arguments that support the counterclaim Evidence (Be sure to include the source.) 1: The growing industry had a negative effect on society due to the Industrial Revolution.

As areas of industry increased, so did the population. Sometimes growth in population can be good, but this had led to overcrowding. The health codes weren't the best so sickness and many diseases broke out and were in the streets and cities.

Explain why the arguments and evidence that support the claim are stronger than the argument and evidence that support the counterclaim.

Even though the Industrial Revolution had some negative effects, the positive effects outweigh them. The advance of visual arts, the modernization of Japan, and the expansion of job opportunities have helped grow the economy socially and economically in many ways.
