Tuberculosis: TB skin test
Mantoux test should be read in 48 to 72 hrs. An intradermal injection of of an extract of the tubercle bacillus is made. An
induration of 10 mm or greater in diameter indicates a positive skin test. An induratioin of 5 mm is considered a positive test for
immunocompromised clients
Treatment is the same as pulmonary
TB
Headaches, neck stiffness, drowsiness,
pericarditis
Wear a mask when in public places or in
contact with crowds. Cover mouth when
coughing or sneezing, use proper hand
hygiene. Take medication therapy for full
duration of 6-12 months.
The client will adhere with the medication
regimen.
The client sputum will test negative for TB
Administer heated and humidified oxygen therapy
as prescribed, prevent infection transmission by
wearing PPE, N95 HEPA filter place the client in a
negative airflow room and implement airborne
precautions
Use barrier protection when the risk of hand or
clothing contamination exists, administer prescribed
medications, promote adequate nutrition
Persistent cough lasting longer than 3
weeks, purlent sputum, possibly bloody
streaked. Fatigue and lethargy. Weight loss
and anorexia, night sweats and low-grade
fever
