Megan Barrett Chlorpromazine Antipsychotics

Antipsychotics block several neurotransmitters, particularly dopamine. The exact mechanism of action and ideal combination of targeted neurotransmitters remain unknown.

*tablet:10mg, 25mg, 50mg, 100mg, 200mg *injectable solution: 25mg/mL

Cabergoline, levodopa, pergolide, ropinirole, lithium, tretinoin

*Increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior *Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to these drugs. *Use cautiously and observe for tardive dyskinesia, which may be irreversible.

cardiac arrest, hypotension, tachycardia, agitation, akathisia, seizures, dizziness, sedation, dystonia, headache, insomnia

Is used to treat Schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, psychosis, acute agitation, depression

*Monitor vital signs. *Apnoea monitoring whilst on medication. *Observe for signs of adverse effects. *Patients should remain supine for 30 minutes after IM injection *Monitor BP (tachycardia may occur with IM injection)

*Pt is less agitated *Pt reports improved mood *Less signs and symptoms of pyschosis

*Avoid getting up too fast or you may feel dizzy. *Drinking alcohol with this medicine can cause side effects. *Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds.
