Abortion Persuasive Essay Abortion is a sensitive subject and it is still a huge debate to this day about whether a woman should be able to have one or not. Certain religions frown upon abortions because of the debate of when life actually become a life. Some believe that life starts at the point of conception while the government has rule that life starts when the fetus can survive outside of the womb. Certain states that have banned abortions, regardless of the reason for wanting or needing it. Women choose to have an abortion for different reasons, such as medical condition of the mother, the trauma surrounding the pregnancy, the Women’s Rights Movement, my body my choice, supported by Roe VS Wade. Women who suffer from medical conditions such as cardiac disease may consider an abortion. The term abortion “is the intentional termination of a pregnancy before the fetus can live independently.” (Gordon, D., Davidson, T., & Lerner, B. 2016). This means that an abortion performed because of a personal reason, or they may have chosen this as an option because the risk of a pregnancy is a great risk to the mother. “An abortion is contraindicated in women with respiratory disease, cardiac arrhythmia, or cardiac failure.” (Gitiforooz, H., & GITIFOROOZ, H. 2004) The ones listed are just a few of the medical conditions but these still pose a great risk to the mother. Medical professionals will discuss all options with their patients and present them with all the facts based on their patient’s medical history. They will let their patients know what they feel is the best course of action. A doctor may consider an abortion if the risk of carrying the fetus to term provides a greater risk to the mother than if the mother terminated the pregnancy. The final decision comes down to the patient and what they believe is the best decision for them and their life. Some conditions mentioned are just a few of the medical conditions that a doctor

1973, many people still feel that this decision should be overturned and the debate about when a fetus is “viable” comes into play. As the ruling stands now, a woman can have an abortion for any reason within the first trimester. After the first trimester, the fetus is considered viable and is able to live outside of the womb. This is still a huge debate to this day. Those are just a few reasons as to why a woman may choose to have an abortion. As discussed women, choose to have an abortion for different reasons, such as certain medical conditions of the mother, the trauma surrounding the pregnancy, and Roe V. Wade. Roe V. Wade is still a case that defines the rights of the woman and her choice to have an abortion regardless of the reason. While rape and incest are more logical or common reasons that, a woman may consider an abortion. Most people do not think about the mother’s health when thinking about a pregnancy and the likelihood that she will be physically able to carry a baby. They only focus on the fetus aspect of the situation and not the whole picture. Sometimes the woman is a single mother with one of the health conditions mentioned previously. These women take in the entire picture before making such a decision and it should be up to the mother to make the best decision for herself based on all the information that she has been given.
