For questions 2-6, chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document in the topic Resources. Use critical thinking as well as support from the topic Resources to answer the following prompts.

  1. Why do Christians believe that morality is absolute and objective, rather than relative and subjective? If morality is objective, where do Christians get their moral standard? Cite Chapter 7 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and/or topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. Your answer in 75-100 words:

Christian morality is absolute and objective, not relative and subjective. People who believe in Christianity don't want to judge others on their moral decisions, especially when they don't know how these situations will affect them personally. They don't want to judge others on their moral decisions. "Most people also recognize that moral decisions are deeply personal. Because it is impossible for one person to really understand what it is like for another person to live through personal situations, it can be quite natural to think, 'Who am I to judge whether that person's decision is right or wrong?'". (Holland, Jibben, 2020, p. 34).

  1. Use the case you chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document to answer the following questions to build the Christian ethical response. Use logical reasoning (general revelation). Cite Bible passages (special revelation), The Beginning of Wisdom textbook, and/or the topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. a. Which case did you choose?

Decisions of Life and Death

b. In Chapter 2 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and the Topic 1 Overview, the elements of a worldview (ultimate reality, nature of the universe, humanity, knowledge, ethics, purpose) are presented. In the case you chose, which worldview element is going to be the biggest factor for determining right and wrong in the case you chose? Why? Your answer in 75-100 words:

When it comes to Janie, her ethics will be the biggest determinant of right from wrong. She grew up in an ethical family, so she understands the values she holds for herself and others. She should also understand that challenges are part of life if she grew up with the right ethics. Everybody faces challenges in life, whether it's something that happens to them or something that happens to people they care about. Rather than let the challenge get the best of her, she should use it to make her a stronger and better person.

c. How does the Christian worldview describe the worldview element you identified? Your answer in 75-100 words:

Christian worldviews describe the worldview element, ethics, as "the systematic study of moral principles that guide human behavior." (Hiles, Smith, 2020, p. 33). Essentially, ethics is what drives us to behave. This is whether these ethics are gained through personal encounters, or are installed in us by our parents or someone we look up to. As well as determining what is right and wrong, ethics gives us these values.

d. What are Bible passages (cite two or three) that will guide the ethics for the case you choose? How do these Bible passages apply to this case? Your answer in 75-100 words:

This case will be guided by the following Bible passages: Deuteronomy 30:19-20, "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!" and Psalm 13:2-3, "How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die." According to the bible verse from Deuteronomy, we have the choice to decide between life and death every day, and our choices have consequences. If you choose life, you will receive blessings. If you choose death, you will suffer the consequences. In the end, the Psalm verse is relevant to my situation because it shows the struggle and the sadness that one experiences during hard times. It is begging God to restore the happiness that one once had, just as Jaine is feeling at the moment.

e. Based on your answers to b and c, explain the Christian response to the case you chose. In other words, how might the Christian worldview resolve the issue? Your answer in 75-100 words:

  1. What are some ways that Christians should be active in helping to alleviate the suffering related to this issue? Give specific examples that ordinary people can do. Your answer in 75-100 words:

It is important for Christians to be there for Jaines and to remind her she is not alone, that she has people there who care about her and want her to be happy, as a means of alleviating her suffering. Lastly, Christians should give her space if she needs it, because they can listen to her and be a person to whom she can vent about the struggles and what she is going through. It's human nature to want to be there for someone in times of distress when something serious happens to them, but a lot of the time, when people are going through such hard times, they just need some space on their own to feel alone.
