Based on Mark 8:29, please address each question below with complete sentences and clear, specific explanations.

1. Select one teaching of Jesus from the following choices: Matthew 5:21-24; Matthew 5:43-48; Matthew 6:19-24; Matthew 7:15-23; Luke 15:1-32; John 13:1-17 and 34-35; or John 15:1-11. Answer the following questions with in-text citations from a commentary in the topic study materials. The commentary used should be included on a reference page at the end of this document.

a. What was Jesus's point in the teaching?

Your answer in 75-100 words:

In John 13:14 (EVS), Jesus said, “If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet”. Jesus continued, “a servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him” (John 13:16, ESV). In John 13: 34-35, Jesus speaks of loving one another, just as he loves us. Jesus is teaching his disciples about empathy, love, respect, equality and compassion. The point of this teaching is to spread this on to others (Keener, John, 2010).

b. How might someone from an atheist or pantheistic worldview see the concepts of this passage differently?

Your answer in 75-100 words:

An atheism worldview may see this passage differently. They may agree with spreading love, respect, equality, and compassion on to others, and in return have that continue to carry on. Atheist will disagree, in regards with the effort of passing on this message, and in the end that effort will be recognized as Jesus’s disciples. Pantheism worldview may not see this passage much differently, then Theism worldview does. Apart from spreading love respect, equality, and compassion, but they will do this in honor of the one they serve.

c. What does this teaching reveal about Jesus?

Your answer in 75-100 words:

The teaching revealed in John 13:1-17 and John 13: 34-35, suggest Jesus is indeed compassionate, respectful, empathetic and filled with love. Jesus himself never saw, he was above anyone else, he had even washed Peter’s feet to provide an example. Jesus sees everyone is equal, and he really wants his messages spread amongst others, so love, faith and peace can flourish (Keener, John, 2010). Doing so Jesus acknowledges those who contribute faithfully and truthfully, will follow him as his disciples.

2. Select one of the following passages in which Jesus makes statements about his nature and purpose: Matthew 9:1-8; Matthew 9:9-13; Luke 7:18-23; John 5:16-18; John 10:25-38; John 14:5-11. Answer the following with in-text citations from a commentary in the topic study materials. The commentary used should be included on a reference page at the end of this document. a. What is Jesus saying about his nature and the purpose of his ministry? What is the significance of this claim?

Your answer in 250-300 words:

In Matthew 9:9 (EVS), Jesus had seen a man named Matthew, and proceeded to tell him to “Follow me”, Matthew did just that. Soon the moment had arisen, where he was relaxing at the tale, many tax collectors and sinners came to eat with Jesus and his disciples. In Matthew 9:11 (EVS), Jesus had stated “It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners”. Jesus had shown that his nature is about forgiveness, mercy, and love. Jesus shows the purpose of his ministry by allowing other sinners and all to come eat with him and his disciples because there is still chance to believe and make right. When he had stated “I desire mercy and not sacrifice”, this provides further proof, that Jesus does not want God’s children to stay sinners. Jesus wanted to make a difference, and he is not going to turn away those who want to change or have a chance they can change. In Matthew 9: (EVS), it is also said “For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners”, this suggest to me, Jesus wanted to call upon the sinners and show them God’s hope, faith and love for them (Keener, Matthew, 2011). To fall into a righteous path, along with Jesus, and no longer be sinners or have sinful behavior, that is what his purpose was of him ministry, and his nature.

3. How would you personally answer Jesus's question, "But who do you say that I am?" (Mark 8:29). Describe your own beliefs about Jesus.

Your answer in 250-300 words:

In Mark 8:27 (EVS), Jesus had asked his disciples, “who do people say that I am”. Mark 8:28 (EVS), it is said “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, one of the prophets”. Mark 8:29 (EVS), Jesus asked again “But who do you say that I am?”. I would answer this question by stating “Jesus, to me, you are my savior. You provided love and hope within all generations, and many thank you for sacrificing on the cross. You showed many around you, during your time as a man in flesh on this earth, that God is real, miracles happen, and
