Be sure you respond to all five prompts and include all the sources you cite on a reference section at the end of this document.

Consider how what you have learned throughout the course will impact your future. Explain how to find your purpose by answering the following questions. Include citations and references from the topic Resources.

  1. Summarize the concept of missio Dei (missional purpose).

Your answer in 100-150 words:

“The theological point that mission is an attribute of God is called missio Dei. Missio Dei, which means ‘mission of God’ or ‘sending of God,’ is rooted in an understanding of the essential nature of the Trinity that results in the action of the mission.” (GCU (Ed.), 2020, para. 17) The Trinity works together to be able to bring forth God’s mission, which is to bring salvation and restoration to this world which has been broken through the sin of humanity. God the Father sent himself to Earth through his son Jesus Christ and then God the Father and God the Son sent the Holy Spirit, and between the Trinity, the church came about. The church continues to exist today ultimately because of God’s mission. This gives us an idea of the mission of the church.

  1. Summarize Buechner's concept of finding your purpose and explain how this aligns with the way you live out your worldview (missional purpose).

Your answer in 100-150 words:

Frederick Buechner “said that a good way to find your purpose, to know what mission God is calling you to is to discern the work ‘that you most need to do and that the world most needs to have done’ (p. 118).” (GCU (Ed.), 2020, para. 31) This aligns with my own purpose as I follow that same concept. I spent time going to school to be a nurse and working in the hospital and I enjoyed it and felt that it was my purpose, but then when I got sick and made me unable to make it through nursing school I was devastated. I ended up working in the educational setting with kids with Autism and realized that was my purpose. My current work and my schooling are never meaningless nor miserable. I get to help advocate for those in the world that are looked down upon, I get to help families feel like their child has a chance in life, and I get to allow my students the chance to be successful out in the world.

  1. Reflect on your beliefs about origins (creational purpose) and describe how those beliefs contribute to your understanding of human purpose.

Your answer in 100-150 words:

My belief in the creational purpose is that God is the creator of this earth, and he created humanity for a specific purpose. The topic 7 overview says that “humanity in general is designed to live in harmonious marriage (Gen. 2:24), to be fruitful and multiply (Gen 1:28), to take dominion over the earth and care for it (Gen. 1:28, 2:15), and to live in relationship with God.” (Rasmussen, 2021) This creational purpose contributes to understanding human purpose as God’s purpose for humans was to reveal his character and to care for what he has created. The creational purpose shares just that. Another part of it shows how God wants humans to love another and to grow in our faith with him, these are two big parts of humanity’s purpose.

  1. Describe how Jesus's statement of overarching purpose in the commandment to love God and love others as ourselves can be lived in and out of the workplace.

Your answer in 100-150 words:

“Jesus summarized the greatest commandments in all God’s Law as loving God and loving others (Matthew 22:38-39).” (GCU (Ed.), 2020, para. 42) When it talks about loving God, that involves deepening and strengthening our faith in him. When we love our neighbors, we inspire others and that brings a powerful sense of community. These two commandments can be lived out in the workplace by choosing to follow God’s path for us by following our purpose and by respecting our coworkers along with giving where we can. That could simply be by offering them a cup of coffee or helping them out with a task at work. These two commandments can be lived out outside the workplace by showing gratitude to God, taking time to read the Bible, drop off some baked goodies for your neighbor, and pray for them.

  1. Describe how your future career can be an opportunity to help others flourish, to be purposeful, and to do no harm.

Your answer in 100-150 words:

I am a firm believer that God guides us towards the path where we are meant to go. But I also know that as humans we are given free will, and we make choices based off what we like or what we think we are meant to do and God gives us that chance, but he also continues to give us the path we are meant for. We have an opportunity to grow from those choices and to strengthen our faith in him while doing so. God has led me to this very point in life from my career change, my last-minute change of colleges, and into my current position. My job right now as a Career Transition Advisor is the definition of helping others to flourish as I get the opportunity to help students with different abilities strengthen their job skills and get into competitive employment so that they can feel good about themselves and feel like they have a purpose in life. My future career is going to
