Impact of Drugs on The Brain
LSD, also known as lysergic acid diethylamide, has relatively unexpected effects on
users. 20 million people above the age of twelve have used LSD at least once in their lives. The
National Household Survey for use of drugs (National Drug Intelligence Center, 2006) reports
that 740,000 individuals within the years of 12 and 17 and 4 million individuals between the
ages of 18 and 25 had used this drug. Scientists are still attempting to determine the long-term
impacts of the potent, unidentified drug LSD. When specific responses occur in the conscious
brain, perception is completely changed.
Drug Description
After using potent psychedelics like LSD, a person may lose their sense of self, their
thoughts, and their perspective on the outside world. LSD is categorized as a hallucinogen
because it causes users to dissociate. Classical hallucinogens and dissociatives belong to these
two categories. These two give the impression that one is completely cut off from the outside
world and that one's body is isolated from it (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2021). A type of
fungus which develops on rye plants produced LSD, which initially became available for
recreational purposes in the 1960s through 1970s (Shafer, 1992). It comes in two forms: tiny
squares pressed into cartoon or haphazard patterns, or as a colorless, unpleasant liquid.
Effects on The Brain
LSD has a profound impact on the brain. The manner in which LSD attaches to nerve receptors
in an attempt to increase the amount of serotonin which the nervous system already naturally
produces causes the ensuing mental abnormalities. It requires a little while for the medicine to
release from its binding onto the cell receptors after it has bonded to them. Since serotonin
regulates emotions, LSD "trips" the brain by rearranging illusions and causing dissociations,
brain's emotions, sensations, and conscious state are remnants of a past journey (Health Life
Recovery, 2021). Generally speaking, utilizing drugs that induce hallucinations can be harmful
to one's overall health..
Conclusion
Even if the medication is stopped, it could take months to cause this anxious thinking to
end. Consciousness is affected by this feeling of releasing one's brain from its original state
(Saplakoglu, 2021). LSD does have significant long-term negative consequences that can last for
years, even if it does not have a high propensity for addiction. Hallucinogen persistent perception
disorder (HPPD) makes the brain appear as though it did while the chemical was activating
through the cell receptors, even if the person chose to take LSD months earlier. Emotions,
feelings, and consciousness are all holdovers from a previous voyage in the brain (Health Life
Recovery, 2021). Generally speaking, utilizing medicines that create hallucinations can be
harmful to one's overall health.
