Aligning Standards and Learning Objectives

Part 1: Lesson Plan Analysis

Dananiquie M Anderson 07/06/ ELM- Professor Wilkinson

Following the review of the COE Lesson plan the academic standard states that the students are to “Use information gained from illustrations such as maps, photographs, and words from books to demonstrate an understanding of the text (COE, 2019).

The COE lesson plans learning objective is quite clear, the learning objective is for the students to successfully know how illustrations make a text complete, as well as how illustrations give the text meaning. By using illustrations whether words or pictures in the text, the students should successfully demonstrate understanding of this lesson with an 80% accuracy by the end of the lesson (COE, 2019).

The academic standard and the learning objectives in the COE lesson plan are definitely aligned, the reason being is that by the students using illustrations to gain understanding from a text which is the academic standard, then they should definitely be able to successfully explain how illustrations are useful as well as how they give meaning to a text and do so with 80% accuracy (COE, 2019).

The lesson from the COE lesson plan is simply about the students using information from illustrations and words and then using that information to show that they have an understanding of the text, the book titled “A Medieval Feast” by

Aliki is what the teacher will use to help the students cover this lesson (COE, 2019).

The COE lesson plan provides a couple of different assessments such as a summative assessment which includes hands on projects as well as a formative assessment such as raising their hands. Each of these assessment choices definitely measure the standards as well as the objectives (COE, 2019).

Part 2: Unwrapping the Standards

Grade Level: Kindergarten

State Learning Standard: Identify and create two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional solids (TEA, 2012).
