DQ When a teacher builds a relationship with parents, it creates a clear sense of classroom expectations while allowing students to share their input(thoughts). This also promotes a positive classroom environment for all students and teachers. Having a solid relationship with families also allows teachers to share any concerns regarding the child while creating a plan of action that will involve both parents and teachers. It is also important to remember that every family dynamic is different and not every child will have the same relationship/environment with their family.”Parents and teachers need to communicate throughout a child’s education, but it is essential during periods of change to know what is happening both at home and at school and to help children overcome the isolation and distress they might feel”(Berger & Riojas-Cortez,2020). One of the issues that might arise from collaborating with families is when the parents do not believe the child misbehaves every now and then. As well as overly involved parents. Sometimes having parents volunteer in the classroom too much can hinder the student from focusing on the assignment being taught by the teacher. From personal experience, it is difficult to make phone calls to inform parents about their child’s behavior when it is unusual for that child to misbehave in school. I’ve received inappropriate comments from parents, have been called to the office to discuss my conversation with the parents, and asked for proof that the child has misbehaved in class. Another thing is the lack of support from parents after an issue arises. “It is essential that children have a supportive, interactive environment that provides loving, caring relationships so that children develop emotionally, intellectually, and physically” (Berger & Riojas-Cortez,2020). Overall, is it important to create and establish a strong relationship with students and their families as it is in the student’s best interest to have parental involvement in school. This tends to lead students to have better grades in school, improved attendance, and improve student feelings in regard to school. However, there has to be a balance between all. When I first started school, I was in the third grade. I didn’t know the language or anything about the new culture so everything was a shock to me. I couldn’t understand anything I was being taught, I couldn’t make friends because everybody in the class I was placed in only spoke English. My teacher(Ms) would always take the time to find work for me to do in Spanish that was relevant to what she was teaching the entire class. I still remember the time she called my dad and apologized for me not receiving the education I deserved like everybody else in her class. I knew she would stay late finding work for me and

translating some of it because I was always the last kid to be picked up from school and she would always have conversations with me about the things I was interested in. 15 years later, I feel like I figured out my passion. My passion is educating children. Taking the time to get to know my students and tailor work that fits their needs. Ms was the most most genuine person I have ever met and for her I am thankful. I am thankful she taught me the importance of creating a strong relationship with students and advocating for them when they aren’t getting what they need in order to be successful in school and in their future.
