Ibuprofen (advil, motrin)
Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs
Inhibition of the cox-1 can result in decreased platelet
aggregation and kidney damage. Inhibition of cox-2
results in decreased inflammation, fever, and pain,
and does not dcrease platelet aggregation
oral 200-800mg,
IV (infuse over 30 min)
anticoags (heparin/warafarin) increase risk for bleeding
glucocorticoids increase the risk of gastric bleeding; alchol
also increase risk for bleeding; do not take ibuprofen with
aspirin
peptic ulcer disease, bleeding disorders (hemophillia or
vitamin k defieciency); hypersensitivity to aspirin or other
NSAIDs, pregnancy, lactation; SLE, renal or liver disease
GI discomfort: dyspepsia, abd pain, heartburn, and
nauseaImpaired kidney function; increased risk of heart
attack and stroke; reyes syndrome
Inflammation suppression, analgesia fever reduction,
dysmenorrhea, inhibits paltelet aggregation,
suppresses inflammation, provides pain relief,
decreases fever, and protects against colorectal cance
