Professional Reflection

When reflecting on my time here at Southern New Hampshire University and the Healthcare Administration program, I have learned a lot that will help me to conquer the field in whichever area I aim to pursue. During the capstone experience, I learned to manage my time on important projects and gather important data needed to complete the capstone. Research is an invaluable tool needed in this growing field, and in my time here at SNHU I have learned to successfully research quantitative and qualitative research to fulfill my various tasks for assignments not only in this course but other courses in the program as well. When completing my capstone, I utilized the various sources available to me to gather the right evidence and information needed to discuss my topic which was staff retention strategies. I learned how to reflect on employee engagement and how to lower retention rates in the field. I felt this was a fitting topic for my capstone because healthcare brings various stressors that are uncommon to other professions.

I feel strongly that the capstone project prepared me for the field of healthcare administration. Not only did I get to use the education I have learned throughout the program,

but I have also learned various skills like research skills, strategic planning, implementing and evaluating skills and goal setting. These skills will enable me to be successful as a healthcare administrator. I learned to set milestones and ways to track and implement these milestones. When completing my capstone, there were challenges faced and overcome. Examples would include the compliance section of the capstone and the ethical challenges as well. these sections were challenging because the amount of research needed for these sections took quite a while to accomplish.

After I graduate, my professional goals are to get a job in the administrative side of healthcare. I would love to do generalized office work or even work remotely at home. I feel that my time here at SNHU has helped me prepare for a professional role in the field. When I do get into the field, I will maintain cultural principles in my profession by creating a safe, secure and supportive environment for all staff members where staff can explore and develop an understanding for all cultures. My application of interpersonal skills and collaborative processes relate to my professional goals in many ways. these include communication skills, management skills, effective decision making, and effective teamwork. I will promote continuous healthcare quality improvement in the professional field by continuously improving the overall healthcare quality and safety of not only fellow staff members but also with patients who walk into the doors of my organization. improving and maintaining quality improvement in healthcare include steps such as lowering readmission rates, improving care coordination among various departments and decreasing medication administration errors.
