Ms. Adler empathy/ education Ms. Adler talks about her pain level and the events of the previous night. Model Statement: "It sounds like you had a hard night last night. Being in a car accident can be a scary experience. I'm sorry that you hurt your wrist, and that you are in a difficult circumstance. If there is anything you would like to talk about, or anything I can do to make you more comfortable, please let me know. We are here to make you feel as safe and comfortable as possible." Ms. Adler says that she can't handle the stress of her life anymore and that she wishes it was all over. Model Statement: When you say you wish it was all over, you are talking about suicide. I am sorry you feel this way, and I understand that this is a difficult time for you. With the proper resources, we can figure out how to move you forward and get you through this difficult time. I would like to refer you to counseling, and resources like a national suicide prevention hotline." Ms. Adler expresses anxiety about struggling in college and family relationships. Model Statement: "It sounds like you have a lot on your plate. I can understand why you are anxious about the stress of college and your relationships with your friends and family. I am here to talk about anything you need to. I can give you resources to talk to a counselor so that you can process some of your stress. In the future, you will find a way to balance some of your academic stress and pressure from your family, and to find healthy outlets for your stress."

Ms. Adler reflects the first signs of alcohol use disorder by neglecting responsibilities, taking risks to drink, and drinking to de-stress or cope. Model Statement: "It sounds like your drinking is starting to negatively impact your life. Although alcohol provides a temporary relief from stress and can make social interactions seem easier, it is also a depressant, and can ultimately make you feel worse. Alcohol also has long- term negative effects, and already seems to be impacting your life. We can talk about support groups and counseling for people who struggle with alcohol use." Ms. Adler reports that she does not care that she was driving drunk, and that she had done it before. Model Statement: "While you might have felt desperate last night, driving under the influence is dangerous. You risked injuring yourself or others. I would like to refer you to support groups and counseling for alcohol use so that you can reflect on last night's events and your actions that led up to the car crash." SBAR Situation: Rachel Adler is a 20-year-old woman admitted from the ED last night following a MVA where she was found to have a BAC of 0% and sustained a (R) wrist sprain Background:
