Amazon Empire Documentary Amazon went live on 16 July 1995. Initially, it started the business by selling books online, afterwards, it started expanding the business. Right now, Amazon is one of the biggest marketplaces where any seller comes and starts selling its product (Front line, 2020). Amazon has a vast range of services, from kindle, Amazon Ring, and Amazon Echo to Amazon Web Service (AWS). Amazon sells its products to local, and international consumers, big corporate, and the Government. Amazon has adopted many business practices throughout this period. It can be discussed whether it is wrong or right taking the perceptive of the company. Although, that business practice has given the competitive edge over other competitors and helps amazon to grow. As far as I am concerned some of the practices, I considered unethical, the strategy is “gazelle” in which amazon targets weak competitors, crushes competitors, and finally takes them out of the business. The motive behind this strategy is to create a monopoly in the market. This strategy gives amazon an edge to dominate the market. Moreover, allegedly amazon had asked for a kickback from some famous publishers reported by Dennis Johnson in an interview (Front line, 2020). Although there is no solid proof, according to their business analyst this money will be used to lower the price of books to generate more customers. But in my opinion, this is a wrong business practice because amazon should negotiate with the publisher directly to decrease the price instead of asking for a kickback to sell the book on their platform. Furthermore, the working condition is not good enough at amazon fulfillment centers. Many exes, as well as current employees, complain about the working condition at the

fulfillment center due to heat. Many of them fall due to the heat and are admitted to the hospital (Front line, 2020). In addition, their mental health condition getting worse due to excessive workload and to meet the daily packing and shipping quota. But their management gave the response that has now installed an industrial chiller and air conditioner system to keep the temperature lower at the fulfillment centers. Moreover, they have planned to invest $700 million in an employee up skill program so that employees can upgrade their skills and if they want to switch the company they can easily switch (Front line, 2020). Also, they have rolled over the robots at the fulfillment centers so that delivery speed can be maximized and to make fulfillment centers safer for the employees. In my opinion, employee safety is one most important factor that companies should focus on and business practices. Also, they are selling some services which are not tested well. One prime example is facial recognition in law enforcement agencies. One ex-employee has alleged that facial recognition is not tested well in the laboratory and is tested on humans (Front line, 2020). This should not be done, being a top-notch tech company and having a team of scientists. In my opinion, such highly sensitive and sophisticated technology is first tested in the laboratory and then it rolls over to law enforcement agencies. Also, there are some flaws, when technology is subjected to the dark tone of a human being. The accuracy level of the technology declines sharply (MIT, 2019). Such types of business practices can cause serious problems in society. Sixty percent of the revenue of amazon come from a third-party seller (Front line, 2020). While there are many incidents reported that third party selling those which should not be sold because it causes serious injuries or risk to health is attached with the product. Being such a big company, amazon develop an algorithm or mechanism that flagged such sellers or products and remove them from the site. Such business practices can lead to a decrease in customer loyalty.
