Demographics:
Sentinel City is comprised of four neighborhoods: Nightingale Square, Acer Tech Center, Casper Park District, and Industrial Heights. The total population of Sentinel City is 663,862. The neighborhood with the highest population is Casper Park District with 352,643, followed by Acer Tech Center with 168,390, Nightingale Square with 103,974, and Industrial Heights with 38,855. Persons aged 65 years and over account for 10% of the population. Persons under 18 years of age account for 21% and 7% are persons under 5 years old. White ethnicity alone is 80%. Hispanic or Latino ethnicity is 31%. Black or African American alone account for 10%. Asian ethnicity alone is 3% and 2% are American Indian and Alaska Native. Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander are only 0% of the population.
Acer Tech has the highest population with White-dominant population of 70%. It has the highest percentage of persons 65 years and over which accounts for 19% and about 1% under age 65 are without health insurance. Industrial Heights has the lowest population with Hispanic or Latino dominant population with median income of $24,672. Industrial Heights has the highest percentage of persons under age 65 without health insurance at 37%. The median household income is highest in Nightingale Square with $269,550, followed by Acer Tech Center with household income of $166,300. Casper Park District’s household income is $80,134.
Neighborhood/Community Safety:
Upon driving into Sentinel City, I noticed that there are graffiti on the walls, especially in Industrial Heights and Casper District areas. There are stores that had been broken in and damaged glass windows that are patched up with ply-woods, as well as garbage on the sides of the buildings. There are old broken cars that are on the side of the road. The Redevelopment Housing Project is being constructed between Industrial Heights and Casper District, and near the construction site are stray animals as well as rats roaming around the area. There is a motorcycle driver who seems to be driving reckless and not paying attention to the traffic lights and pedestrians. The use of controlled substances is about 16% of the common arrest charges in Sentinel City; 23% accounts for other charges. When it comes to drug use within the last year, alcohol is the highest at 36%, followed by tobacco and prescription drug use. Marijuana use accounts for 12%, as well as heroin at 7% and cocaine at 5%. The highest crime reported last year was gang related aggravated assault with 1,231 reports. Sentinel City’s second reported crime is robbery with 559 reports, followed by rape crimes with 312 reports. The lowest reported crime in Sentinel City last year was murder with 20 reports. In comparison to other cities, Sentinel City’s EMS response time is 7 minutes. City 3 has the fastest response at 5 minutes. Sentinel City’s EMS response time is faster than the other two cities.
