Course Overview: The role of the BSN nurse in promoting community health

This 8-week course presents the theory and concepts of community health nursing. The role of the BSN Community Health Nurse

in identifying factors that influence population health will be explored. Students will examine various models to perform

community health needs assessment and health planning. Concepts of epidemiology, caring for vulnerable populations, managing

population health issues, and disaster management will be analyzed. Students will explore the nursing role in population-focused

care including interprofessional collaboration.

Explores community health nursing,

focusing on the history of

community health and the role of an RN,

communicable diseases, environmental

health, ethical practices, mental health

and substance abuse, emergency

preparedness, vulnerable populations

finishing with health promotions. This is an

8-

week active learning course with a new

module and key concepts to examine each

week.
