D222: Comprehensive Health Assessment D 1. Health Promotion Justification Justify your assessment findings that support the appropriateness of the two recommended health promotion activities. Include the rationale for your chosen health promotion activities using evidence from two journal articles, one per health promotion activity, published within the last five years. Goal 1: My first health promotion activity is to exercise 3 times a week for the minimum of 20 minutes, increasing intensity as tolerated. I chose this health promotion activity, because my patient did not currently exercise. “Overwhelming evidence exists that lifelong exercise is associated with a longer health span, delaying the onset of 40 chronic conditions/diseases” (Ruegsegger et al 2019). The goal for this patient is to prolong his lifespan and improve his life by diminishing his chances of developing disease processes such as a cardiac event or diabetes type 2. Goal 2: My second health promotion activity is to have the patient start a diet that has servings of vegetables, lean protein, heart healthy grains in each meal. The patient states he does not have a healthy diet at this time. Evidence supports that a healthy diet rich in nutrients can promote the prevention of common non-communicable diseases (Cena et al, 2020). The patient will be encouraged to break the Westernized diet of foods that are high in processed meats and saturated fats. He will be encouraged to start filling his plates with fresh fruit, vegetables, and lean protein. “A healthy diet is one in which macronutrients are consumed in appropriate proportions to support energetic and physiologic needs” (Cena et al, 2020).
