Create a thread stating the basis for the colonists protesting with the rallying cry "no taxation without representation." Then respond to one of your classmates with an answer to the following question: Would you say there are groups of people today that can cry "no taxation without representation"?

Great Britain’s involvement in the French and Indian War left them with tons of debt to pay off.

King George III and the British Parliament implemented new laws within their colonies that

would help pay off Britain’s debt at the cost of the colonists. Such laws included the Sugar Act,

Stamp Act, and Townshend Acts. These new laws affected colonists and their businesses and led

to different forms of resistance. Their resistance was met with violence from royal officials and

often resulted in riots and murder. Still, the colonists felt like they did not have a voice or

someone who could represent them in government. The saying, “no taxation without

representation” means that colonists did not want to pay taxes without being represented.
