STUDENT NAME: NOLUSAPHO BENEVOLENCE PHENYANE

STEP 2:

  1. Which is the most likely utilitarian option in the multiple-choice question above

E. It breaks my heart to see children exploited. This is morally wrong and must not be allowed

  1. Why do you say this?

I strongly feel that child labour is morally wrong and should not be allowed anywhere, because than it endangers the children’s lives, and they are exposed to so many dangerous conditions in their work area. They are not even given medical aids nor even paid enough money to cover for medical bills, instead they are just paid “a remuneration of 1 to 2 dollars per day”, and there is no protection or security, meanwhile their workplace is not safe for them. Most of the children can not even go to school, and they are also not skilled for the work that they do.

  1. What do you feel about this option?

I feel as if though the conditions in which the children work under can lead to bodily harm and even cause dead. Because the conditions that the children are exposed in are very dangerous for the children. The main fact that the children must work without breaks and that there isn’t even security to ensure the safety of the children in their working space. That’s what makes it morally wrong, and it must not be allowed, but instead they should allow for the children to go to school. Article 32 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is clear on this matter: “ States Parties recognize the right of the child to be protected from economic exploitation and from performing any work that is likely to be hazardous or to interfere with the child’s education, or to be harmful to the child’s health or physical, mental, spiritual, moral or social development.”

  1. Which option did you chose.

I choose option E. which is “it really breaks my heart to see children being exploited. This is morally wrong and must not be allowed.”
