Weaknesses of Quantitative Research
However, the emphasis on numbers found in quantitative
research can be limiting, leading to a number of drawbacks.
Quantitative research has a tendency to be limited in its
pursuit of concrete, statistical relationships, which can lead to
researchers missing larger themes and relationships. By focusing
solely on numbers, you risk missing out on surprising or big-
picture information that could help your business. When
conducting quantitative research, you must carefully develop a
hypothesis and set up a model for data collection and analysis.
Any errors in your setup, bias on the part of the researcher, or
mistakes in execution can render your entire study invalid.
Making a hypothesis can also be subjective.
Especially if you already know you want to prove or
disprove a specific question. Because quantitative studies are
statistically based, many people believe they are more reliable
and scientific than qualitative observational studies. Both types
of research, however, are subjective and can be deceptive.
