Weaknesses of Quantitative Research However, the emphasis on numbers found in quantitative research can be limiting, leading to a number of drawbacks.

Quantitative research has a tendency to be limited in its pursuit of concrete, statistical relationships, which can lead to researchers missing larger themes and relationships. By focusing solely on numbers, you risk missing out on surprising or big- picture information that could help your business. When conducting quantitative research, you must carefully develop a hypothesis and set up a model for data collection and analysis. Any errors in your setup, bias on the part of the researcher, or mistakes in execution can render your entire study invalid. Making a hypothesis can also be subjective.

Especially if you already know you want to prove or disprove a specific question. Because quantitative studies are statistically based, many people believe they are more reliable and scientific than qualitative observational studies. Both types of research, however, are subjective and can be deceptive. Opinions and biases of researchers can also have an impact on a

quantitative approach to information retrieval. In fact, the effects of this bias appear earlier in the quantitative research process than in the qualitative research process.

Research is a process, and simply changing directions or starting over does not imply that you have failed or done something incorrectly. Successful studies frequently generate new questions. Keep an eye out for these new questions. That way, we can continue to respond to them as we go. Small businesses must understand people in order to succeed, and they cannot ignore the behavior of their customers and competitors. When conducting quantitative research, don't forget to collect qualitative information as well. This can take the form of open-ended questions, panel discussions, or simply following up on customer opinions and concerns.
