Movie Reflection

SUMMARY:

The intern movie is all about a 70 year old widower, Ben Whittaker, who find his life boring. He already did all the things that he want, traveling, watching movies, visiting his son, taking mandarin lessons, etc. But even though he did all that stuffs, he still feel that there's a hole in his life and he wanted to fill it. That's why he decided to work again and apply as intern at an online fashion shop, founded and run by Jules Ostin which is considered to be a demanding, dynamic and workaholic person. Ben becomes her personal intern and later on create a special bond of friendship not just to her but as well as to the other employees working in ther company.

REFLECTION:

“You should feel nothing but great about what you've done, and I'd hate to see you let anyone take that away from you.” - Ben, The Intern 2015

The movie intern taught us a lot of lessons. In fact, it was a great source of management and life lessons. As what we see in the movie, they don't have any office, even their founder and owner Jules Ostin doesn't have one, she just sits at a shared community desk out on the floor with other employees. They are working together in a interlinked system, coordinated and structured fashion to achieve their goals. And with that kind of structure, they can be able to communicate with each other effectively and do task more efficiently. The employees in the organization are all accessible, even Jules, they are willing to help each other, solving issues and making plans together. They also celebrates each other success, whether it was a small or big achievement and I really think that it was really a great idea to motivates the employees to continue doing great in their tasks. Moreover, they also have a proper communication with their customers, they always update on their customers, quickly addressing the issues that happen about their product, they really provide a good and satisfying service to their customers. Also, I was very amaze on how Jules Ostin manage her employees. She is very passionate and hardworking. She is also accessible in a sense that even though she is really busy, she is always visible to his employees, talking to them, discussing about the things they do and motivating them through giving them credits of their achievements. And it is really great of her managing a 200 plus employees and

achieving their 5 year goals in just 8 months.

LEARNINGS:

"The Intern" was a fantastic film; it was simple, but it was packed with lessons. The film taught us to never stop moving forward in life and that it is never too late to learn something new. In the film, Ben is a 70-year-old retiree who is full of life and loves to try new things. He is offered a position as a senior intern at a thriving online fashion site. Ben is unfazed by the new technology. He learns how to use a computer from the ground up with the help of his younger colleagues and his grandson, who explains what a USB is. He understands the importance of embracing the latest in the field of innovation and honors the energy and creativity of the younger generation who are driving today’s tech economy. Like Ben, we should be willing to change with the changing times and willing to come out of our comfort zone to explore the wonders of the New Age World. The movie also taught us to believe in ourselves and to never give up on our life's goals and dreams. That no matter what others say, just as Jules does in the film when her investors doubt her, she does not give up. Instead, she keeps running her business and proving them wrong. We, like her, should never give up on our dreams and have unwavering faith in ourselves.

Moreover, I learned in the movie that we should always be humble and as well as we should not underestimate other people. Ben has been a Dex One executive for nearly 40 years, which means he is very knowledgeable about the company's management. However, despite all of his experiences, he remains humble. He doesn't act like a high person or someone who deserves special treatment. Instead, he humbly socializes with others while also assisting them in performing their tasks efficiently. In addition, Jules made a huge mistake by underestimating Ben. She taught Ben that he couldn't do this or that, and she didn't even give him a task at first. However, she later discovered that Ben is a very talented and knowledgeable individual.
