1. What is the central message common to all videos below? Share your REACTions and reflections on the videos you have seen.

Adoption is the legal process of having a non-biological child as part of a new family, in line with the videos that are shown, it brings about the importance of going through the legal process of adopting both domestic and intercountry thus, it safeguards both the adoptive parents and the adoptees in the process of adoption. It is defined in RA 8552 ART I of Section 3 (j) that those adoptive parents who didn’t abide by the legal process of adoption also known as the simulation of birth, are those who interfere with the civil registration of the child’s birth documents that results to losing the child’s true identity and status. Concerning the said existing issue in the matter of adoption in the Philippines, it was also shown in the video the importance of willingness of the adoptive parents to go by the will of the step by step process of adoption in which could take a long period as well as continuous expenses with the legal documents and lawyer, and frustration of waiting and proving self to the court that you are both qualified and capable of becoming a parent to these children that were certified as available for adoption. As I was being informed through watching the videos, I was also surprised by the fact that one of the main reasons why people in the Philippines find it hard to adopt children legally is because of the legal procedures that they needed to go through, which for me is just enough to determine how suited and capable the adoptive parents are for the adoptee, the child’s point of view matters in every aspect that these future adoptive parents can all protect, care, and provide.

2. Discuss legal implications and applications of the laws of adoption in the professional conduct and practice of Psychology. Enumerate and explain.

From the very beginning of the process of adoption, it was stated in ART II Section 4 (a,b,c) that counseling is provided for the biological parents, prospective adoptive parents, and prospective adoptee to inform them of the process and outcomes of their decisions and possible situations they have to go through, especially for the biological parents who were persuaded to not put their children into adoption and to at least reconsider their decision of adoption before finalizing it in the first place.

Title VIII of the family code ART 194, both legitimate and illegitimate children of the said parents should be able to provide clothing, medical attendance, education, and another financial

aspect necessary for the well-being of the child. It is one of the qualifications that needed to be screened as well as the mental aspect of the adoptive parents in making sure that the adoptees are being entrusted to good people and a safe environment.

RA 8552 ART VII of section 21 enumerates violations to the law like tampering to the child’s birth records, physicians or nurses who would violate their oath about the adoption and any other person who violates the said law enumerated in the said section will be generally penalized for 6 years and one-day imprisonment or a fine not less than 50,000 pesos and not more than 200, pesos under the court’s jurisdiction.

3. Share reflection or personal insights from the videos you have watched.

Adoption is a new light for children who were born to be with people who may not be biologically related to them but willingly and wholeheartedly would be able to love them and cherish them as they become an efficient and integral part of our society. It may take a while, time, money, and stress but worth it if it’s about changing lives and fulfilling one’s life to have a happier one. Adoption is the most beautiful law that was made to help children and beautify their views as they grow up with the love and care that they deserve from the very beginning of their existence.
