TYPES OF SEWING MACHINE THEIR USES AND CHARACTERISTICS

1. ORDINARY SEWING MACHINE - sewing machine is a machine used to sew fabric and materials together with thread. Sewing machines were invented during the first Industrial Revolution to decrease the amount of manual sewing work performed in clothing companies.

2. PORTABLE SEWING MACHINE - Any sewing machines that isn't permanently mounted to a table or cabinet or is lighter and smaller than standard models can be described as "portable." To cover all the bases, we've included a wide variety of models on this list, from lightweight mechanical choices to more robust computerized options.

3. SINGLE LOCK STICH SEWING MACHINE OR INDUSTRIAL

SEWING MACHINE - Industrial machines are intended for factory use. Some machines are designed to make shirts cuffs and some are designed to put the waistband in jeans. These machines are built specifically to do long term and professional tasks. Their constructions are made up of highly durable parts and motors. The gears, housing, connecting rods and body of the industrial sewing machines are made up of high-quality metals like cast iron Aluminum.

4. OVER EDGING SEWING MACHINE/OVER LOCK SEWING - These types of machines sew over the edge of one two pieces of cloth for edging, hemming or seaming. They automatically cut the edges and sew. The cutters present in overlock machines allows these machines to create thickened seams easily and quickly. These are also called sergers in North America. Some machines are also available without cutters. These machines run at a high speed from 1000-9000 rpm. These are mostly used in industries for edging hemming and seaming.

5. EMBROIDERY SEWING MACHINE - Embroidery machines are meant for Embroidery work. They do embroidery work on fabrics. Embroidery also can be done by a normal zig zag machine. This type of embroidery is called free motion embroidery.

6. BUTTON HOLLER SEWING MACHINE - Button Holler machines are meant to make button holes. The buttonholer is an attachment for a sewing machine. Nowadays most modern machines have this button holler function inbuilt, which many older machines do not have. Any sewing machines that are capable of making lockstitch can make button holes with a buttonholer attachment.

10. GARTERING SEWING MACHINE - The gathering foot's is one of the sewing machine feet for gathering fabric. Its main function is to gather and attach at the same time. The presser foot acts together with the feed dogs underneath the fabric and creates the small gathers in each stitch while sewing it to the “base fabric.

11. PIPING SEWING MACHINE – In sewing, piping is a type of trim or embellishment consisting of a strip of folded fabric so as to form a "pipe" inserted into a seam to define the edges or style lines of a garment or other textile object. Today, piping is common on upholstery and decorative pillows, but it is also used on clothing.

  2. A machine runs by electric motor
  3. A hard power machine which is run by foot and turning the balance wheel by hand
