FOREIGN REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

A longitudinal study found that Internet game addition/depression severity at an earlier time positively predicted the depression/Internet game addition severity at a later time, which indicated that a possible bidirectional relationship existed between online gamers' depression symptoms and addiction. People cope with their emotional distress by playing online games, but the excessive use of online games for a long time may separate individuals from real-life relationships, thus causing severer mental health problems, such as depression.

Previous studies have consistently confirmed the connection between loneliness and online game addiction. Prior research has indicated that, although playing online games may temporarily provide an escape from the negative feelings associated with social deficiencies, excessive gaming does little to facilitate the development or maintenance of real-life relationships.

The investigation on the potential effects of mobile game addiction and adolescence social anxiety is of importance considering that approximately one third of adolescents meet the criteria for an anxiety disorder. Some literature indicates that Internet addiction, smartphone addiction, and online game addiction were all associated with an individual's social anxiety. Individuals with a serious tendency for online gaming addiction have significantly higher social anxiety levels than those who use online games normally.

As immediately evolving technological applications, games and simulations are already widely combined in the traditional educational process. They are deployed generally in the field of education, with an existing body of work examining the similarity between games and education (Yang, Chen, & Jeng, 2010; Chiang, Lin, Cheng, & Liu, 2011). In recent years, digital or web-based games have increasingly supported learning. In the context of online education, this research area attracts a serious amount of interest from the scientific and educational community, for example tutors, students and game designers. With the growing expansion of technology, instructors and those who create educational policy

are interested in introducing new technological tools, such as video games, virtual worlds, and Massive Multi-Player Online Games also known as MMPOGs (Buckless, 2014; Gómez, 2014).

The goal of this study was to examine the associations between mobile game addiction and depression, loneliness, social anxiety, and the potential gender difference in these associations were also investigated. The results revealed that adolescent with mobile game addiction had higher self-reported depression, social anxiety and loneliness, which have supported our three hypotheses regarding the association between mobile game addiction and depression, social anxiety, and loneliness. As we expected, mobile game addiction was positively associated with depression, anxiety, and loneliness, which have supported all of our three hypotheses and are in line with prior findings. Literature has consistently shown that video game addicts reported more anxiety, depression, lower positive affect and psychological well-being.

Based on the study, Some of the students are addicted to Online games like Mobile Legends, Valorant, League of legend, and some Online games. Online games can give a kid or students a problem it can ruin your time management if you spend too much time in online games. Sometimes it can change your behavior and you can't control yourself and have a health problem. So while before it too late let's control it reduced the time that you give in online games and give it a limit because we were responsible for our health.

According to a study by Garcia, Jarabe & Paragas (2018), online gaming can have a negative influence on school performance by displacing time that would have been spent in other educational activities such as reading and homework. Many of the students spend hours a day playing online games, it becomes a primary source of entertainment for them that leads to forgetting to forget the role of being a student.

Several studies in psychology have found out that increased time spent on the Internet can lead to negative impact on a person’s ability to communicate appropriately face-to-face with friends, peers, family members including parents. Studies revealed that the human brain is easy to destruct and one of the reasons is using technology.

It is critical to understand gaming problems not only by means of the observable symptoms but to situate them within the broader context of the game, the individual, and the attitudes. While there have been a number of studies of the effects of online game addiction on academic performance, none has looked at the influence of online computer game addiction on students’ academic performance in Zamboanga del Sur (Garnada, 2020). To bridge the gap, this study aims to determine the effects of online games on the academic performance of senior high students in Our Lady of Fatima University.
