Cry of Bahay Toro

Santiago Alvarez is regarded as a main source since he was there during the incident because he is a Katipunero, but this does not qualify him as an eyewitness because he was not present when it occurred. Unlike Pio Valenzuela, Alvarez was not one of the people Bonifacio had asked to attend the meeting. According to Santiago Alvarez's account, the incident took place in Bahay Toro, but this information is insufficient to conclude that the First Cry took place there. This is because government maps published in 1956, 1987, and 1990 confirm the existence of Bahay Toro barangays but do not indicate their exact boundaries. These maps do not include Pugad Lawin. The date that was stated by Alvarez in his account is August 24, 1896. Years earlier, in 1927, Alvarez had already reached the age of 55 when he penned his book. In addition, he wrote this book 20 years after the incident, therefore his narrations may be incomplete or he may have forgotten some things that may have occurred in the past. Due to the fact that he waited for many years before writing and publishing his narration, as well as the fact that he was quite old when he penned his narrative, there may be occurrences that he no longer recalls. Alvarez delivers a narrative that lacks any dramatic description since it is only a retelling of what occurred in Bahay Toro on August 24, 1896.

 August 22, 1896- The supremo deployed guards and stationed the detachment at the Balintawak Boundary where they were assembled.

 August- 23 1896- They arrived at Cabesang Melchoras home.

 According to Alvarez, the event happened in Bahay Toro - now part of Project 8 in Quezon City on August 24, 1896.

 Santiago Alvarez account was published 20 years after the event, his account was published in a weekly magazine "Sampaguita" with 36 parts in 1927
