Different Breeds of Swine

Landrace - is a domesticated, locally adapted, traditional variety of a species of animal or plant that has developed over time, through adaptation to its natural and cultural environment of agriculture and pastoralism, and due to isolation from other populations of the species.

Duroc -Older domestic pig breeds originated in the US and served as the foundation for numerous mixed-breed commercial hogs. Duroc pigs have robust, medium-length bodies that are reddish-brown and golden yellow, are muscular, and have ears that are partially drooped. Of all the pig breeds grown for meat, they are known for being one of the least aggressive.

Large White -It also called Yorkshire, an exotic breed of pig that has its origin in Yorkshire in England. It is also called English Large White or Yorkshire. This pig breed is well known as the most prolific breed of pigs in the world with very great mothering abilities.

Pietrain -A breed with a medium size and is white with black spots. Around the black spots there are characteristic rings of light pigmentation that carries white hair. The breed is commonly referred to as being of piebald markings. The ears are carried erect. The Pietrain is renowned for its very high yield of lean meat but this is often associated with the presence of the halothane gene for Porcine Stress Syndrome.
