ANTICLIMAX

 Refers to a figure of speech in which statements gradually descend in order of importance.

ANTIPHRASIS  A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is used to mean the opposite of its normal meaning to create ironic humorous effect. Example: 1) She’s so beautiful. She has an attractive long nose.

ANTITHESIS  The juxtaposition of contrasting ideas in balanced phrases  This is the exact opposite of something or when two things contrast greatly  Emphasizing contrast between two things or fictional characters Examples: 1) “Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing; a confusion of the real with the ideal never goes unpunished.” (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) 2) “One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” (Neil Armstrong, 1969) 3) “Many are called, but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14) 4) “It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.” (Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens)
