I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to : 1. define the meaning of Grammatical signals, Cause-Effect / Claim and Counterclaim; 2. differentiate the function of each classification of grammatical signal; and 3. use the appropriate grammatical signals or expressions suitable to each pattern of idea development: Cause-Effect / Claim and Counterclaim

A. Content Standard

The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West Asian literature as an expression of philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in various text types; reality, fantasy, and opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding strategies; and use of information sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported speech, perfect tenses, and logical connectors in journalistic writing.

B. Performance Standard

The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts, the contents of which may be used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring use of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.

  1. Open your cameras;

  2. Listen attentively;

  3. Participate in the discussion; and

  4. Do not sleep. A5. Safety reminders:

  6. Sanitize your area;

  7. Keep everything clean;

  8. Always wear your masks when going outside; and

  9. Stay healthy by exercising, eating healthy foods and checking your mental health.

Always remember that good health is the best wealth!

A6. For learners with disabilities: -Learners with poor eyesight will be given a separate material with larger font size.

B. LEARNING TASK The teacher will ask:

“Imagine yourself travelling to an unfamiliar place without road signals. What do you think will happen to you?”

The student will be asked to guess the given pictures.

C. Presenting examples/ instances of the lesson

The teacher will give an example of selection entitled “The Answers” by Ria Angelli Garcia and the learners will read and answer the process questions.

For learners with poor eyesight, the teacher will give a separate file that contains larger font text for them to read well.

The learners will be answering the guided questions:

The teacher will discuss more about the topic to deepen the understanding of the learners.

The learners will be asked to present their work in class after the activity. F. ASSIMILATION The teacher will give a 15-item quiz through quizziz

G. Making generalizations and Abstractions about the lesson

To sum it all up, the grammatical signals , when used, change the meaning of the sentence/s. It also helps the reader follow the direction of a writer’s thought. The Cause and effect is a relationship between events or things, where

one is the result of the other or others. This is a combination of action and reaction. Something happens (a cause) that leads to an effect. And in Claim and counterclaim, Claim is the main argument and a counterclaim is the opposite of the argument, or the opposing argument. Counterclaim always negates what is being claimed by the people.
