EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS
What is education? Why is it important? Education is a process, it is a logical and physiological aspect of learning, it involves teaching, training, and instructions and learning by discovery, method of education implied by a teacher must put the pupil in a situation where he or she is learning through achieving some sort of task presented to him or her. To be educated also requires some understanding of principals ‘of the reason why’ of things. The output of education must be reflected on student’s achievements.
Education can be a very broad word it can be any environment or situation where you learn something. But for most people education means going to school. Why many people do thought that education is the key to success? it is because it open doors for people of all background and it expands the human mind with knowledge, without education ones chance for securing a good job and have a better life are often limited.
Today in the Solomon Islands and around the world people send their children to school to have a better education. It is an essential part of intellectual freedom and one of its values is improving how student’s views exist in participating in the life around them. It also allows individuals the practical knowledge to succeed in their profession and turn them into something greater.
Education provides the opportunity to learn about many different subjects for example, literature, history, maths, and development studies; these help students to discover what interests them and guides them to make appropriate decisions which will help them to succeed in life after completing their studies.
Attending schools and being educated improve a sense of control and increase the chance for a person to succeed. It enhances a person to develop his or her skill acquired during the process of education. People will come out with different level of competency as a result of their education performances.
Today in the Solomon Islands there is rise in unemployment, this happens because lack of better education, which indicates that in order for us to have jobs, and being employed to successfully earn a living; education is the key to success.
There is a saying that says, people perish because of lack of knowledge, why is lack of knowledge becomes part of many people’s life within any society? If we refer to the introduction of this script, we will come back to the importance of education. It is through education that people acquire knowledge; we find out that knowledge is taught, conflict between families and hatred between people arises because of lack of knowledge and understanding.
During the olden days, in the Melanesian society, it is a practise that girls do not go to school and being educated. Cultures view education as for boys only, it did not see that everybody needs to go to school and be educated in order to succeed. As modernisation come into place, rules, regulations and laws are put together which enables everyone to have equal rights and access to education. Gender equality is advocated in all society where participation of girls and women are of importance in any education system.
People with higher status in the government and public sectors are selected on merit of qualification achieved through their education. In the Solomon Islands for example, you will see that a lot of people, across all ages are marking around the street, if you interview them, they will tell you that they did not attend any formal education, , this gives a clear picture that education is the key to success in all aspects of life, those that have been educated have a better and successful life, those that do not have better formal education resort to selling of betel nuts, and other local produce in the street corners or market areas. They make their living through the little skill they have but a lot of teenagers resort to criminal activities and blame the education system for their failures.
There is evidence to prove, and even scholars wrote and testify about the fact that education is the key to success.
In conclusion I would highly advocate that yes, education is a very important tool that helps every individual to gain knowledge, and excel in their life. It is a door way to abundance knowledge, and it is advisable and encourage that every individual should have equal access and rights to attend a formal education system. Those that are illiterate, they should be encouraged to attend literacy school to improve their lives as well, and a regulation must be in place to govern any society in terms of making sure that everybody attends formal education to help them succeed.
